Description

Nemesis System

A Minecraft (semi) implementation of the Shadow of Mordor Nemesis System, fully integrated with Eldritch Mobs. When elite monsters defeat you, they grow stronger, lead armies, and actively hunt you down.

How It Works

1. Promotion

When a player is killed by an Eldritch Mob, that mob is promoted to Captain status. The Captain receives a unique name (such as "Azog the Zombie"), gains levels based on your experience and armor quality, and is added to the Nemesis Hierarchy database. The original mob is cleared, and the Captain retreats into the shadows.

2. Ambushing

Captains do not stay hidden forever. While you are exploring outside your safety zone (more than 200 blocks away from your spawn point), there is a chance a retreated Captain will ambush you.

  • Captains spawn near you with dynamic size scaling based on their level.
  • High-level Captains receive equipment upgrades (chainmail, diamond, or netherite gear).
  • Captains of level 3 or higher spawn with bodyguards.
  • Captains of level 7 or higher spawn riding a zombie horse mount.
  • Ambushing Captains and their bodyguards target you immediately upon spawning.

3. Cheating Death and Battle Scars

When you defeat a Captain, they have a chance to cheat death. If they survive, they gain levels and develop battle scars based on how they died (e.g., "the Burned" from fire damage, "the Eyeless" from arrows, or "the Blighted" from magic/potions). They will mock you in chat when they return for revenge.

4. Background Power Struggles

Captains engage in simulated power struggles in the background. Every 20 minutes, there is a chance an active Captain will win a struggle, leveling up and sending a broadcast rumor across the server.

5. Nemesis Hierarchy Screen

Press H (default keybind) to open the Nemesis Army Hierarchy UI. This interface displays:

  • All active, retreated, and defeated Captains.
  • Each Captain's current level, player kill count, and status.
  • Any battle scars they have acquired.

Requirements

The following dependencies are required to run the mod:

  • Fabric API
  • owo-lib
  • Eldritch Mobs (provides the modifier system that enables Captain promotions)

Future Features Roadmap

The following features are planned for future updates:

  • Nemesis Intel: Captain strengths, weaknesses
  • Rivalries and Duels: Power struggles where Captains duel each other to gain levels.
  • Captain Archetypes: Unique behavior sets for different Captain
