🤔 What is Shield Rework?

Shield Rework changes how shields behave in Minecraft. Shields now have a health bar replacing the durability bar of the item. Hitting a shield will damage its health, and break the shield when it reaches 0.

Set the gamerule shield_damage_axe_only to true to make only axes able to damage shields.

💡 Features

  • Shields now have 80 hp.
    • Hitting it will deal damage the same way it would to any entity.
    • Certain items (axes only by default) deal more damage.
    • Its health is indicated by how "shattered" its texture looks.
    • Breaking a shield puts it on a 5s cooldown.
      • Its health can only be regenerated once the cooldown is elapsed.

🛠️ Developers

  • Items doing more damage to shields are contained in the tag extra_shield_damage.
    • By default, it only contains the tag minecraft:axes.
    • Items in this tag deal 4.5 times more damage to shields.
    • The sources will always be contained alongside the mod's jar.

Can I use this in my modpack? Yes.

Can you port this to Forge/Neoforge/Quilt? No. I only make mods for Fabric and won't port them for other mod loaders.
