Description

AI Crafting Table: NeoForge Port

An unofficial NeoForge 1.21.1 port of AI Crafting Table, originally created by AlexLee1235 / Watermelon0117 for Minecraft 1.19.2 Forge.

This project is independently maintained and is not an official release from the original author.

Compatibility

Component Version
Minecraft 1.21.1
Mod loader NeoForge 21.1.241
Java 21
Mod version 1.2.0
Mod ID aicraft

The port is built and tested against NeoForge 21.1.241. Compatibility with other NeoForge versions is not guaranteed. The mod must be installed on both the server and every connecting client.

What the mod does

AI Crafting Table turns a 3x3 ingredient layout into new generated items:

  1. Place ingredients into the AI crafting table.
  2. Request three item ideas based on the ingredients and their arrangement.
  3. Select one of the generated ideas.
  4. The configured AI service generates the item's properties and texture.
  5. Take the result to register its recipe in the current world.

Generated items can behave as tools, weapons, food, or regular items depending on their generated properties. Their recipes, item data, textures, and per-player rate limits are persisted by the server and synchronized to clients. Previously generated recipes are also available through the mod's crafting integration.

Installation

  1. Install Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge 21.1.241.
  2. Install Java 21 if it is not already available to your launcher or server.
  3. Download the NeoForge port JAR.
  4. Place the JAR in the mods directory on the server and on every client.
  5. Start the game once to generate the configuration files.

The AI crafting table recipe uses four diamonds around a vanilla crafting table:

 D
DCD
 D

D is a diamond and C is a crafting table.

AI service configuration

The common configuration is generated as config/aicraft-common.toml.

  • When OpanAI API Key is empty, the mod uses the original project's public proxy service at mod.aicraftingtable.com.
  • When an OpenAI API key is configured, the server contacts the OpenAI API directly for text and image generation.

The OpanAI API Key spelling is retained for configuration compatibility. API keys are stored locally in plain text: never commit a populated config file or share it with a client. Direct OpenAI use requires network access, a compatible account, and may incur API charges.

Generation requests necessarily send crafting-grid item names, the requested language, and a player identifier to the selected external service. The public proxy is operated outside this port and its availability is not guaranteed.

Server rate limits

Server-authoritative limits are generated in config/aicraft-server.toml:

Setting Default Meaning
ideaRequestsPerCooldown 50 Accepted idea-generation requests per player
craftsPerCooldown 5 AI-item crafts per player
cooldown 24h Rolling cooldown window

The cooldown accepts a positive integer followed by s, m, h, or d, for example 30m, 24h, or 7d. An accepted generation request consumes its quota even if the external service later returns an error.

Commands

Operators with permission level 2 can remove a generated item and its recipes:

/aicraft removeItem <item_id>

Building from source

Clone this repository and run the Gradle wrapper with Java 21:

.\gradlew.bat build

On Linux or macOS:

./gradlew build

The built mod is written to build/libs/aicraft-1.2.0.jar.

Development status

The project compiles and its client and dedicated-server startup paths have been smoke-tested. Some scenarios still require broader in-game testing, including slow or failed AI responses, large generated caches, multiplayer interaction, and migration of old 1.19.x world data.

See PORTING_STATUS.md for the detailed migration and verification record.
