Description

Alpha Gaia

This is a data pack that adds in an Alpha 1.1.2-style World Preset. Since this is a data pack, it will not be a perfect replica, as many features would require mod changes to do (see Differences below). This is just a way to get the Alpha vibes in vanilla.

This means Seeds from Alpha will not work. Use mods like Moderner Beta if you want to do something like that.

The Mod version is simply a package for the data pack and language pack for ease of installing.

Notable Additions from Alpha:

  • Mobs
    • Only mobs from Alpha can spawn naturally, examples:
      • Drowned can spawn from transforming a Zombie into one (not a natual spawn)
      • Zombie Villagers can't, because they do have separate IDs
      • Baby Zombies can spawn though, as they have the same ID as Zombies
    • Structures
      • Only Monster Rooms spawn
    • World Features
      • Only the Foliage from Alpha will spawn
      • Only the Ores from Alpha will spawn

Differences:

  • World Height
    • 256 instead of 128. This is more of a past limitation than a unique old feature
    • W.I.P: Old Height Add-on
    • Nether
      • The Alpha 1.2.0 Nether is added to this, despite it not existing in Alpha 1.1.2
    • Caves
      • Can generate with water in them due to data pack limitations
        • Less water on the surrounding surface means less water underground
      • Can generate in bodies of water
    • Biome Colors
      • Are not identical to Alpha (e.g. grass/water/leaves). I tried my best to sample colors, but the foliage color just isn't coming out the same
    • Stone Basins
      • Are not square and glitchy like in Alpha

These have been adjusted to be close to Alpha, but aren't perfect:

  • Ores
    • Including deposits, like dirt and clay
    • Cave Generation
    • Vegetation
      • Flowers, trees, pumpkins, sugarcane, cacti, etc.
    • Ponds/Lakes/Oceans
    • Sandy/Gravel "Beaches"
    • Terrain Shape

If you are an Alpha Code fanatic and know of exact spawn rates/probabilities for any of these features, or think you can implement them in a better way, feel free to contribute on the GitHub page or my Discord!

Please keep in mind I wish to keep this as a Data Pack, as there are plenty of other projects that seek to do what I'm doing in the form of a mod, like Moderner Beta.

Remember to Select the Alpha Gaia World Type! If you don't have the language resource pack installed, it will not look like this though.
  • Alpha Gaia
Alpha Gaia World Generation is returned back to a simpler time. Before proper biomes and with bright colors. Even only older mobs spawn, with some exceptions.

  • Increased Cave Generation
Increased Cave Generation Caves were reduced at some point in earlier Minecraft without being mentioned. These have also been increased, similar to how it was.
  • Including the Alpha 1.2.0 Nether
Including the Alpha 1.2.0 Nether Although the Nether wasn't added until Alpha 1.2.0, I've added it to this preset. Removing Nether Portal functionality goes beyond the scope of what I wanted to do with this pack, so why not include it?
