About

Description

This mod is in beta

Problem: there is no practical way of traveling arbitrary distances in a world, even in the late game.
Problem: strongholds are the only "strategic" locations that present an incentive for setting up a base.
Problem: the ancient cities are, if you ask me, dissapointing.
Problem: there is an unused portal in the center of the Ancient City.

This mod presents a solution.

Ancient Portal Fast Travel turns the ancient city portal into a fast-travel portal that can connect to other ancient cities over arbitrary distances, given you've visited your destination. It does this with distinct mechanics, visually appealing graphics, and custom sound design.

Just Two Items:

Echo of the Ancients, found in mineshaft chests, stronghold libraries, dungeon chests, and treasure bastions. Their shrill calls when used are echoed by lost souls. Perhaps you will be able to follow the echoes? Presents an immersive way of locating ancient cities.

Echo Keys, crafted from one EotA and 9 Echo Shards. They can be linked to the nearest city by right-clicking on reinforced deepslate (the "portal frame"). Using a linked key on the portal of a different ancient city will attempt to open a portal to the linked city. 7 XP levels are needed for the key to activate, but it may not be enough for you to survive the journey!

Portal activating with Photon shaders, custom animation, and glowing cyan portal blocks. Portal Activating Animation

Notice for Forge users!

This mod does not have a real Forge version. Instead, I have made sure that it will work with Sinytra Connector.

FAQ

> Where are the items? I can't find them in the creative inventory!
> They are currently only available through loot generation or commands. This will be fixed by the first non-beta release.

> I used the Echo of the Ancients and it beeped, but then nothing happened?
> If the city is far away, it will take a bit for the second beep to sound. If the city is really far away, you may not hear anything at all since the sound fades with distance. Alternatively, ancient cities just don't generate in the dimension you are in.

> What happens if two portals try to connect to the same place?
> It won't work.

> What happens if a portal tries to connect to another entrance portal?
> Any entities that go through will get teleported down the chain.

> What if I form an infinite loop with the portals?
> Try it. See what happens :) (Not advised if you are on hardcore)

> I sometimes get server-client desync on multiplayer
> One day I'll learn proper networking. For now, just rejoin the server if it becomes a big issue (in most cases it shouldn't)

> The portal is not lit but the blocks are still emitting light
> Relog should fix it. Unfortunately I don't think I have the knowledge fix this myself.

> Will this be updated to version XXX?
> I will target both 1.20.1 and the latest version for my mods. Anything in between will not be supported. While I am fixing up my terrible code I will stay on 1.20.1.

This Mod Is Not Finished!

Bad Code Warning: I am still in the process of cleaning up my atrocious code. In the meantime, there may be bugs and crashes, and no issue tracker or repository. There are also more features I intend to add, including a config file and making the items available through the creative inventory.
