Archean Rise

Thanks for checking out Archean Rise!

Why I made it
I got tired of worlds you can cross in an afternoon. Vanilla mountains barely clear the treeline, oceans are puddles, and once you've seen one biome you've mostly seen them all. Archean Rise is my answer to that.

What is Archean Rise?
Archean Rise rebuilds the Overworld to a much larger scale. Peaks can climb to ~704 blocks, the ocean is ~2x deeper, and the underground is far deeper than it used to be. A single mountain takes real effort to get over now instead of a quick jont, the ocean is genuinly vast, and going too deep below ground can genuinely be a very long adventure.
All told the world holds roughly two and a half times the room of a normal one. Coastlines, mountain ranges and rivers are laid out at something closer to a continent's scale, which gives the land an more realistic large feel rather while trying to not overdo it. You get cliffs, arches, deep valleys, and sometimes even a view that genuinely makes you stop to admire it.
It runs in singleplayer and on dedicated servers and is currently for both NeoForge and Fabric.
A scenic mountain view.

Getting started

You have to make a new world.
  • Single Player: When you create the world, set the world type to Archean Rise.
  • Dedicated Server: One line in the server's server.properties: level-type=archean_rise:archean_rise
World generation will take a fair bit longer. Since the world is much larger the terrain will take longer to generate. To speed things up a generation-speed mod such as C2ME paired with Chunky, and other optimization mods, will help a lot. These are especially helpful on dedicated servers.

Alpha Build

It's stable and it works, but I'm still actively building it, and an update can change how brand-new land is made. Anywhere you've already explored stays exactly as it was, so the only effect is a possible seam out at the frontier. For the cleanest result, start fresh after a big update.

Compatibility

Nearly everything is fine. Performance mods, shaders, maps, machinery, food, quality-of-life, none of that competes with what this mod does. The only mods that can clash are ones that also build the world, and I've put a large stack of biome and structure mods through their paces. Most work without any fuss, including Biomes O' Plenty, Terralith, Nature's Spirit, Oh The Biomes We've Gone, the YUNG's mods, Dungeons and Taverns, Towns and Towers, the Luki's packs, the Create structure add-ons, and plenty more. The full rundown lives on the Compatibility page. Mods that don't work:
  • Expanded Ecosphere — it takes over the Overworld the same way this does, so only one of them can win. The game won't start with both.
  • The standalone Terralith datapack — use the Terralith mod instead, which is fine. The datapack version wipes out this world entirely.
  • Formations Overworld — Will crash on launch, however that's not caused by Archean Rise.
Mods that work.. with a catch:
  • YUNG's Better Caves hollows the underground out a lot, since it's adding its caves on top of the ones in Archean Rise.
  • Repurposed Structures and the Moog's structure mods spawn their buildings closer together than is intended for this mod. There's a one-off config tweak on the Compatibility page if it bothers you.
  • YUNG's Better Mineshafts needs a single line changed in its config before one of its mineshaft types will show up.
None of those are dealbreakers.

Final Note

This is a solo project and it's early. If something looks off, a strange seam in the ground or a building spawns weirdly, I'd really appreciate a report, along with your version and whether you're on Fabric or NeoForge. That's honestly what moves it forward fastest.
