About
Description
Note: the reason 1.20 is in the mod's name + summary is not because you can play it in 1.20 - you cannot use this mod in Minecraft 1.20. 1.20 is in the name and description as my mod replicates, as closely as possible the archeology system from 1.20, not the archeology system from 1.17 that was shown off. If you can think of a better name that gets this message across, feel free 👍
A brief history
Archeology was announced during Minecraft Live 2020, but was later postponed, then finally announced to becoming in Minecraft 1.20.
The aim
The goal of this mod is to recreate, as accurately as possible, the Minecraft 1.20 archeology system.
Why?
Q: Why am I recreating archeology, probably less than a week before it will be added to the game?
A: Because I'm impatient C O N T E N T
The features
Brush
![]()
The brush is the start to the entire archeology system. It is crafted with a stick, a copper ingot, and a feather, and is used to dig up artifacts.![]()
Suspicious sand
![]()
Found in deserts and on beaches, suspicious sand is where you will find all of the goodies. To search a piece of suspicious sand, right click it with a brush. If you get lucky, you can find pottery shards within!![]()
Click for probabilities.
1/5 chance for a pottery shard. If the 1/5 chance fails, you get one item from the junk table, which contains four items of equal probability (25%): a stick, a gold nugget, a bone, and sand.
Pottery shards
![]()
Pottery shards are found in suspicious sand. There are four unique patterns: the diamond, the skull, the player, and the bow and arrow.
Clay pot
![]()
Crafted with six terracotta, the clay pot is purely decorative, but used to make the chiseled clay pot.

Chiseled clay pot
![]()
Once you get a clay pot and all four pottery shards, you can get the chiseled clay pot, which, like the normal clay pot, is decorative.![]()
