Ask Mod

Ask AI models from inside Minecraft chat. Client side only, so no server mod is needed. Bring your own API key.

Commands

• /ask <question> : ask the AI. Add --screen to attach a screenshot, or --model provider:model to pick a model for one question.
• /askscreen <question> : same as /ask --screen.
• /askmodel [provider:model] : show or change your default model. Tab completion included.
• /askproviders : list providers, show which ones have a key set and which support screenshots.
• /askclear : forget the conversation and start fresh.
• /askconfig : open settings in game.

Keybinds: K opens settings, J starts a screenshot question. Both can be changed in Controls.

AI providers

OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Ollama (runs on your own PC, no key needed), OpenRouter, Groq, Mistral, xAI Grok, DeepSeek, Azure OpenAI, or any OpenAI compatible server.

Put your keys in /askconfig or config/askmod.json. Keys stay on your PC and are never logged.

Screenshots

Screenshots are only sent when you use --screen. They are shrunk and compressed before sending. If a model is not verified for images, the request is refused unless you allow it in settings.

Versions

Pick the file for your Minecraft version and loader:

• Fabric: 1.20.1, 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.8 (needs Fabric API)
• Forge: 1.20.1 (needs Forge 47)
• NeoForge: 1.21, 1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.8

All files need Cloth Config. ModMenu is optional on Fabric and adds a config button to the mod list.

The 1.20.1 files need Java 17. The rest need Java 21.

Privacy and data use

This mod has no analytics and no tracking. When you ask something, your question is sent to the AI provider you chose so it can answer. If you used --screen, the screenshot is sent with it. If game context is turned on, basic info is added: player name, singleplayer or multiplayer, dimension, position, biome, and FPS. Your API keys are only ever sent to the provider to log you in. Nothing else leaves your computer.
