Astral Upgrader Items

Astral Upgrader Items introduces a risk-based item conversion system built around a single special item: the Astral Upgrader.

Right-click the Astral Upgrader to open its upgrade interface. Place an item into the input slot, choose the item you want to obtain, and the system automatically determines the probability of success based on the relative value of both items.

Start the attempt and a moving indicator travels around the upgrade wheel. Stop it inside the success area and your original item is transformed into the selected target. Miss the zone, and the input item is consumed.

Dynamic Value System

Astral Upgrader Items does not depend on manually assigned prices for every item.

Instead, the system evaluates items by following their actual recipe requirements and tracing them back toward their base resources.

Supported production methods include:

• Crafting
• Smelting
• Blasting
• Smoking
• Campfire cooking
• Stonecutting
• Smithing

This creates a value hierarchy based on how an item is actually produced.

For example, an iron ingot receives its value from the resources required to produce it. A more advanced item, such as a netherite weapon, inherits value from the components used throughout its crafting chain.

Astral Upgrader Items is a reworked and modernized version of the original Upgrader concept.

The project was created to bring the original idea up to date with a completely refreshed design and user experience. While the core upgrading mechanic and fundamental concept remain the same, the mod has been extensively redesigned and reworked to provide a more modern, polished, and engaging experience.

The UI, visual design, item presentation, configuration, and overall experience have been significantly changed and improved while keeping the original concept recognizable.

Full credit goes to the original creator for the original Upgrader concept and foundation. Astral Upgrader Items is intended as a modernized and redesigned continuation built around that original idea.

Automatic Modded Item Support

Astral Upgrader Items is designed to work with modded content without requiring individual compatibility entries.

If a modded item has a valid recipe that can be evaluated, its value can be calculated automatically.

This provides:

• Automatic valuation for supported modded items
• No need to manually configure every item
• Consistent upgrade probabilities
• Recipe-based pricing instead of arbitrary values
• Support for complex crafting chains

Durability Matters

Tools and weapons are not treated as if they were always brand new.

Items with reduced durability are assigned a lower effective value according to their remaining durability. A nearly broken tool therefore won't be worth the same as a freshly crafted one.

Probability System

The success chance is calculated dynamically from the relationship between the input item's value and the selected target's value.

The base calculation follows:

0.9 × (Input Value ÷ Target Value)

The result is restricted to a minimum of 0.1% and a maximum of 90%.

This creates a controlled risk system:

• More valuable inputs provide better chances against expensive targets.
• Attempting a significant upgrade remains risky.
• Downgrading an item never becomes an automatic success.
• Even extremely unlikely upgrades always retain a small possibility of succeeding.
• No individual item's probability needs to be manually configured.

Items Without Recipes

Not every Minecraft item can be meaningfully valued through recipes.

When an item has no usable recipe, Astral Upgrader Items can fall back to a rarity-based estimation where appropriate.

Items whose value primarily depends on NBT or stored data are excluded when a meaningful valuation cannot be determined. This can include things such as:

• Spawn eggs
• Potions
• Enchanted books
• Other NBT-dependent items

This prevents the system from assigning misleading values to items whose important properties cannot be represented by their basic item type alone.

Multiplayer Safe

The upgrade result is processed on the server side.

The client only handles the visual interface and interaction while the actual success or failure is determined by the server. This prevents players from simply modifying the client to force successful upgrades.

Astral Upgrader Items can therefore be used safely in multiplayer environments.

Crafting

The Astral Upgrader can be crafted using:

• 8× Obsidian
• 1× Diamond

Place the required materials into the crafting grid to create the Astral Upgrader.

Take the risk. Chase the upgrade.
