About

Description

Atmospheric Nether expands on the Nether by altering major worldgen aspects while keeping in mind adventure and exploration as well as technical aspects of Minecraft. This pack is made to be geographically and geologically immersive and imaginative.

This form of the project has been discontinued. To see the latest [modded] version: Atmospheric Nether

First, the Nether, from bedrock floor to ceiling, extends from -64 to 256, with another 64 blocks above the Nether roof to play with.

The major features of this datapack include the following:

  • There are now "continental" regions of the Nether. These regions host valley-like terrain and plateaus, as well as the occasional peak. These regions are surrounded by towering and dramatic cliff faces that most times reach the netherrack ceiling. Often at the center of these continents are remnants of volcanic activity, and sometimes extremely vast oceans of lava left over from the geological phenomenon.

  • The continental boundaries are often carved into by the rivers of lava flowing all over the continents. The resulting subterranean rivers often twist and turn underneath the mountain ranges, and sometimes cut right through. Perhaps a strider could be of use navigating the terrain here!

  • In the deeper portions of the Nether, Overworld-like cave generation has been added. Large, smooth, and expansive caves mix with noodle and sphagetti caves to form vast networks.

  • Entrance caves form underground as well, and are randomly sealed near the surfaces of continents. These caves are completely sealed beyond the continental boundaries.

In addition, 27 new biomes have been added, comprised of:

  • 7 new forest biomes
  • 9 new cave biomes
  • 5 subterranean river biomes
  • 6 other "surface" biomes

These biomes are designed to interplay with each other to tell a story about the Nether and its nature. What story that is, is up to you.

Have fun exploring and finding all of them!

NOTES:

  • I highly recommend pregenerating the Nether to your desired distance. It can be slow to generate and take up plenty of RAM!

  • The vanilla ancient debris y-levels are unchanged.

Spoiler

There is a biome where ancient debris spawns more frequently and in larger blobs. It is up to you to find out where and at what level.

  • Heart of the Continent
Heart of the Continent Every continent was driven and shaped by some specific activity. Most times you can find their "heart" by venturing inward.
  • "The Damned Rivers"
"The Damned Rivers" A perspective of common terrain you will encounter in the Nether continents. I seriously recommend getting familiar with striders!
  • The Volcanic Sea
The Volcanic Sea Plenty of space to explore and build within. Take care not to get lost!
  • Basaltic Abrasion
Basaltic Abrasion A geological feature only found on the borders of the continents and vanilla Nether.
  • Overgrown Crimson
Overgrown Crimson Some forests stand the test of time. You will know when you are in an old forest by the brightness and extra variety in the tree forms.
  • What Happened Here?
What Happened Here? "The air here feels disturbed, and the trees warn us away."
  • This Forest is Sick
This Forest is Sick "It's oddly dark around here... more than usual."

  • The Hollows Mourn
The Hollows Mourn "The cave air here feels... depressed... shameful... and unusually still."
  • The Blackstone Caves
The Blackstone Caves Remnants of volcanic activity formed these beautiful displays of glowstone, as well as their companion stone.
  • The Crimson Caverns
The Crimson Caverns The forests of the Nether managed to colonize the ground below long ago. In their relatively sealed environments, they have found new ways to grow.
