Description

Basic Nuclear Craft

The Mod "Basic Nuclear Craft" adds multiple new items, blocks, game mechanics one armor set and commands to the Vanilla Minecraft experience! It's centered around adding a semi-realistic radiation system aswell as all necessary tools and utilities to deal with that newly added mechanic.

Overview of added features

Radiation Mechanic

The Mod adds its own radiation system. There are certain blocks/items which emit dangerous levels of radiation. That radiation can be meassured using the "Dosimeter" item. The readings are displayed in mSv/h and a total accumulated dose is also displayed in mSv. Radiation decreases with distance to the object, with the radiation of naturally generated blocks (i.e Granite) fading faster than the radiation of artificial blocks (i.e The nuclear reactor). A full list of radiation emitting blocks can be found below. Lead Blocks can also be used to shield oneself from radiation, with every layer of Lead Blocks blocking around 80% of incoming radiation. The accumulated radiation dose resets after a player dies.

Radiation Visual Noise

In most videogames, the visual feedback of radiation is ones screen turning some shade of green. This Mod behaves differently. Taking inspiration from the real-life phenomena of white-dots appearing on video if a camera is exposed to high levels of radiation, this Mod also displays white-dots on ones screen, starting at 30mSv/h and getting more intense with higher readings. This can be used as an identification method of high levels of radiation even if no Dosimeter is present.

Uranium

The Mod adds multiple Uranium-based items, such as:

  1. Uranium Ore (Normal & Deepslate variant) -> Can be found below y=8
  2. Raw Uranium and Uranium Ingots
  3. Uranium Blocks (Raw & Smelted variant)
  4. Fuel Rods and Empty Fuel Rods
  5. The Nuclear Reactor

Lead

The Mod also adds multiple Lead-based items, such as:

  1. Lead Ore (Normal & Deepslate variant) -> Can be found below y=60
  2. Raw Lead, Lead Ingots (and Lead Nuggets (unused))
  3. Lead Blocks (Raw & Smelted variant) -> Only the smelted variant blocks radiation!
  4. The Hazmat Suit

Radiation Protective Gear

The Mod also adds Gear, which aids the player in avoiding and navigating dangerous areas, such as:

  1. The Dosimeter, which can meassure the accumulated dose of oneself aswell as the current reading of radiation (Can also detect radiation sickness)
  2. The Hazmat Suit, which blocks 95% of incoming radiation but offers only limited protection to other hazards such as Mobs

Nuclear Reactor

The Mod adds a Nuclear Reactor Block, which can be used to generate certain items in predefined intervals. The GUI has a total of 13 slots, the 9 slots on the left are used to insert Fuel Rods, the three in the middle can be used for coolant, the one on the right is the item output. Accepted coolants:

  1. Ice (1x Efficiency)
  2. Packed Ice (9x Efficiency)
  3. Blue Ice (81x Efficiency)

The Reactor generates items randomly from the following Loottable:

  • 4 Diamonds
  • 2 Ancient Debris
  • 1 Netherite Ingot
  • 1 Enchanted Golden Apple

The time the Reactor needs to produce those items differs, based on the amount of Fuel Rods which are inserted into the Reactor:

  • 1 Rod: 9mins
  • 2 Rods: 8mins
  • 3 Rods: 7mins
  • 4 Rods: 6mins
  • 5 Rods: 5mins
  • 6 Rods: 4mins
  • 7 Rods: 3mins
  • 8 Rods: 2mins
  • 9 Rods: 1min

Beware! The higher the amount of Fuel Rods inserted into the Reactor at once, the higher the Radiation the Reactor emits! After 30mins, a Fuel Rod depletes and turns into an Empty Fuel Rod.

If the Reactor stays without coolant for to long, it will start to heat up und eventually explode. Upon explosion, the Reactor will release multiple "Corium" Blocks, which is extremely radioactive (8Sv/h per Block) and is mined very slowly, making the cleanup process very dangerous and long-lived.

Radiation Sickness

The Mod adds a form of Radiation Sickness which can be detected using the Dosimeter or by noticing certain symptomes. The sickness manifests in 3 stages:

  1. Mild Radiation Sickness (1Sv+) -> Hunger, Nausea
  2. Progressing Radiation Sickness (4Sv+) -> Weakness, Mining Fatigue, Slowness, Poison
  3. Severe Radiation Sickness (8Sv+) -> Weakness, Slowness, Wither, Occasional Instant Damage

Commands (OP only)

/radiation current add/set/remove/reset

(WIP)

/radiation total add/remove/set/reset
  • Adds/Removes a certain amount of radiation to the accumulated dose
  • Sets the accumulated dose to a certain amount
  • Resets the accumulated dose to zero
/radiation fuelrod deplete/setburn/reset
  • Depletes the held Fuel Rod (1s of Fuel left)
  • Sets the Burntime of a Fuel Rod to a specific amount
  • Resets the Burntime of a Fuel Rod to 5mins

Other Changes/Additions

  1. Ancient Cities are highly radioactive (100mSv/h background radiation + Sculk emits very high amounts of radiation itself)
  2. Armor Durability (Of all armor types) slowly drains when exposed to more than 3mSv/h of radiation
  3. Having Uranium-based items in your inventory will expose you to radiation
  4. End Cities (1.5mSv/h), Fortresses (0.1mSv/h), Bastions (0.15mSv/h) have background radiation.
  5. Operator Radiation Blocks (Extra Low 1mSv/h, Low 10mSv/h, Medium 100mSv/h, High 5Sv/h, Etxra Extreme 20Sv/h, Ultra Extreme 600Sv/h), which behave similar to Barrier Blocks

Full List of Radioactive Blocks (Per Block readings)

  1. Any Granite (0.0008mSv/h)
  2. Redstone Ore (0.002mSv/h)
  3. Deepslate Redstone Ore (0.005mSv/h)
  4. Ancient Debris (0.5mSv/h)
  5. End Portal Frame (1mSv/h)
  6. Sculk (5mSv/h)
  7. Sculk Sensor & Shrieker (50mSv/h)
  8. Sculk Catalyst & Reinforced Deepslate (100mSv/h)
