Better Worldgen
A Personal Take On Minecraft's Vanilla World Generation.
Better Worldgen doesn't aim to add more content. Instead, it refines Minecraft's Vanilla world generation by removing and modifying terrain features that, in my opinion, disrupt the natural flow of the landscape.

Upcoming Changes for Version 0.5.0
With the upcoming release of Better Worldgen 0.5.0, planned to coincide with Minecraft's 26.4 Winter Drop, some changes will bring the datapack closer to Vanilla Minecraft's original world generation.
Some of the more recent changes will be reverted to preserve the familiar Vanilla feel. The goal is to keep the improvements that make the world feel cleaner and more natural without changing too much of what makes Vanilla world generation special.
Planned changes:
- World Height: The maximum world height will return to Y=320.
- Mountain Height: Mountains will once again reach a maximum height of Y=256.
- Cave Entrances: Large surface cave entrances will return.
- Mesa Mineshafts: Mineshafts will once again generate in Mesa biomes.
These changes will bring Better Worldgen back to a more familiar Vanilla scale while keeping its core idea intact: refining Minecraft's world generation while staying as true to Vanilla as possible.

This datapack refines Minecraft’s world generation by removing and modifying selected terrain features to create a cleaner, smoother, and more consistent world. Overhangs and small cliffs have been removed to produce smoother landscapes, while cave pillars, aquifers, and standard carvers have been disabled to create a less fragmented underground environment. Caves still generate naturally, but their surroundings are more continuous and less disrupted by these features. Additionally, underground sediments such as dirt, gravel, clay, and soul sand no longer generate. Surface and underground lava lakes, along with natural lava and water springs, have also been removed to prevent fluids from disrupting the terrain and cave systems. Overall, the world feels cleaner and more cohesive while preserving the core experience of Vanilla Minecraft.
Changes:
Terrain:
- removed overhangs & small cliffs
- removed cave pillars
- removed lava & water aquifers
- removed carvers
Features:
- removed underground sediments (dirt, gravel, clay and soul sand)
- removed lava lakes
- removed lava & water springs
Please note: Better Worldgen is still under active development. Changes may vary between versions, as existing features may be modified, added, or removed as development progresses.
