Description

Bone Meal Sugar Cane

Right-click sugar cane with bone meal and it grows. Vanilla ignores bone meal on cane, so this pack adds the missing behavior.

Features

  • Bone meal adds one block of height to the sugar cane you're looking at
  • Follows vanilla growth rules: needs air above, and stacks stop at 3 blocks tall
  • Uses one bone meal per successful use (none in creative)
  • Green sparkle particles on growth
  • Works in multiplayer, with each player's click handled separately

Installation

  1. Download the zip
  2. Put it in your world's datapacks folder (or drag it into the world's data pack screen when creating a world)
  3. Run /reload or restart the world

How it works

Vanilla gives no way for a data pack to detect a bone meal click on cane, so while you hold bone meal, the pack places an invisible interaction entity on the cane you're looking at. Right-clicking it triggers the growth.

Known limitations

  • Bone meal must be in your main hand (offhand won't work)
  • While holding bone meal and aiming at cane, left-click hits the invisible target instead of breaking the cane. Switch items to break it.
