About
Description
A client-only mod for Better Than Adventure!, which allows you to control your camera isolated from your player, making it a convenient tool for inspecting builds and machines.
Please note that freecam might be consdered cheating on some servers, therefore please make sure that it is allowed by the rules, or ask the server owner first!
Compatibility and Dependency:
This mod is developed for BTA! release 8.0, and will be maintained for future release versions. It is cliend-only, meaning that it will do nothing when installed server-side.
The only dependency other than BTA! itself is Fabric Loader. You can obtain a pre-built BTA! instance with Fabric included from here (github).
Usage:
The mod adds two new keybinds, Toggle Freecam (key.freecam, default F6)
and Toggle Freecam Control (key.freecam_ctrl, default F7),
which can be found in the game setting under Control > View.
While in freecam, you can control the camera similar to how you would control
while in noclip mode -- meaning you can also use ctrl (or your configured
noclip keybind) and mouse wheels to change your fly speed.
Toggle Freecam toggles you in and out of freecam, and additionally resets
your freecam position and rotation when re-enabling it, which can be prevented
by holding ctrl.
Toggle Freecam Control returns you control of your player character while in freecam.
Differences Compared to Other Freecam Mods
Unlike most other freecam mods, this mod does not modify your camera position, instead transforms the perspective matrix directly, which leads to the cool effect of allowing you to fly through the skybox :3.
For the same reason, the freecam position is stored as an offset to your player camera, instead of an absolute position like most other freecams. Let me know if you want the latter to be made possible!
This mod also makes your player model visible while in freecam, which aligns with Tweakeroo's freecam and (I believe) most other mods -- with the catch that it is hidden when the freecam is too close!
It's worth noting that there exists another freecam mod for BTA!, CameraMan by Apollointhehouse, which does not make the player model visible for the sake of minimalism (I assume).
Installing / Building from Source.
To install, simply navigate to the release page, and install the version compatible with your BTA! version -- or just the latest release in general.
To build from source, clone the repo locally via git, and run ./gradlew build
while within the working directory of the repo. The build artifacts can then be
found in build/libs/.
