About
Description
When Entity Model Features is animating mobs, for example with the Fresh Animations resource pack, any mob you pick up with Carry On goes haywire in your arms: it spins its head, twitches and rolls its eyes. This mod keeps it steady.
It fixes the bug reported in Carry On #861 ("Fresh Animations makes mobs wriggle when carried") and #875 ("Mobs shaking/jittering after being picked up with EMF & ETF installed"). Carried mobs keep their Fresh Animations model, so faces and eyes stay intact, and they still blink and look around like normal.
Features
- Carried mobs hold still in your arms, the same pose vanilla shows, while keeping their animated look.
- Works in first and third person, including stepping up and down blocks while you carry something.
- Client side only. Install it in your own game; servers don't need it.
- Only changes how the carried mob is drawn. Carry On's pickup rules, settings and keys stay exactly the same.
- If a future Carry On update changes the code this hooks into, the fix simply switches itself off instead of crashing.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1
- Carry On 2.2.x. The mod does nothing without it.
- The problem only happens with Entity Model Features (usually through Fresh Animations), so that's when you need this.
Tested with
Built and tested in a large Create modpack with shaders on:
- Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.251
- Carry On 2.2.6.13
- Entity Model Features 3.3.9, Entity Texture Features 7.2.4
- Fresh Animations 1.10.4
- Also running: Sodium 0.8.13, Iris 1.8.14-beta.1, Not Enough Animations 1.12.6
Mobs checked in first and third person: villager, cat, cow, chicken, bee, fox, wolf, sheep, pig and more. Other versions will probably work too, but these are the ones I know work.
How it works
Carry On draws the mob in your arms by building a brand new copy of it every frame. That's fine for vanilla models, but an animated model sees a mob that is always newborn, keeps getting a new identity and has half reset rotations, so its animations restart and jump around twenty times a second. This mod keeps one steady copy per player until you pick up something else, holds its pose still (the same pose vanilla shows), gives it a proper animation clock and keeps it settled when you step up or down.
Carry On scripts that change which mob is shown in your arms are left alone.
Reporting problems
This is a stopgap until Carry On or Entity Model Features / Fresh Animations fix this themselves; then this mod won't be needed. Please report problems on GitHub Issues with:
- your Minecraft, NeoForge, Carry On, EMF, ETF and Fresh Animations versions (and any other animation or model mods),
- which mob, first or third person, and the exact steps that make it happen,
- a short video or screenshots if it's visual, and your
logs/latest.logif anything crashed, - whether it also happens without this mod.
And please be considerate: I'm doing this in my free time.
