Description
Cat In The Hat: After Hours
Cat In The Hat: After Hours is a Minecraft Forge 1.20.1 horror mod built around unpredictable encounters, creepy atmosphere, custom animations, and a highly detailed original horror-style Cat model.
This is not a creature that simply spawns and runs toward you. The Cat has multiple different encounters and behaviors that can happen naturally while you play.
Natural Encounters
All of the main encounters can occur naturally without using commands.
Stalking
The Cat may appear at a distance and silently watch you.
He can appear from different ranges, remain there for a period of time, and disappear before eventually returning again.
Getting too close can cause the encounter to end.
Hide and Seek
One of the largest encounters in the mod.
You are given a 10-second countdown to hide.
Afterward, the Cat searches for you for 30 seconds.
During the entire hiding and searching sequence, he is protected from normal despawning.
If he finds you, the encounter can turn into a chase.
If you attack him during the countdown or search, he immediately becomes aggressive.
A unique music track plays specifically during the Hide and Seek encounter, including the countdown, search, and chase caused by the encounter.
Freeze
A warning appears on your screen before the challenge begins.
You receive a 3-second countdown, followed by 5 seconds where you must remain completely still.
If you move during those five seconds, the Cat appears with his chainsaw and begins chasing you.
If you successfully remain frozen, the encounter ends and he disappears.
Stare
The Cat appears directly in front of you.
You must keep looking at him for 5 seconds.
If you look away before the timer finishes, he becomes aggressive and begins chasing you.
Successfully staring at him for the entire countdown causes him to disappear.
Window Knocking
The Cat can appear outside nearby windows and knock on the glass using a custom window-knocking sound.
He uses a dedicated knocking animation and can position himself at elevated windows instead of requiring the window to be directly at ground level.
Door Knocking
The Cat can appear outside doors and knock before disappearing or progressing into another encounter.
Door and window encounters use their own sounds rather than randomly playing the mod's normal music.
Final Trials
A rarer encounter sequence combines several of the Cat's challenges into a larger event.
These encounters become available later in a world and can include mechanics such as Freeze, hiding, and staring.
Chainsaw Chases
When certain encounters are failed, the Cat can enter a full chase.
During chainsaw chases:
-
He visibly holds the chainsaw with both hands.
-
A chainsaw sound plays during the chase.
-
He uses a custom running animation.
-
He can aggressively pursue the player.
-
He can transition through different animations depending on movement and terrain.
Normal encounters do not constantly play chainsaw audio. It is reserved for situations where he is actually using it.
Custom Movement and Animations
The Cat includes separate custom animations for:
-
Walking
-
Running
-
Crawling
-
Climbing
-
Attacking
-
Chainsaw attacks
-
Stalking
-
Revealing himself
-
Window and door knocking
-
Searching during Hide and Seek
-
Breaking through obstacles
The walking and search animations are designed so he moves physically instead of simply gliding across the ground.
He can also crawl through smaller spaces and use different movement behavior depending on his surroundings.
Smarter Horror AI
The Cat has multiple AI behaviors instead of one basic chase goal.
Depending on the encounter, he may:
-
Watch the player from a distance.
-
Search for a hiding player.
-
Chase after spotting the player.
-
React when attacked.
-
Appear outside buildings.
-
Knock on doors and windows.
-
Reposition during encounters.
-
Crawl or climb when necessary.
-
Attempt to break through doors while pursuing the player.
He also cannot be permanently trapped by simply putting him inside a boat or minecart.
Natural Spawn System
The encounters are spread out so the Cat does not constantly appear.
New worlds begin with a grace period before natural encounters start.
Afterward, encounters use randomized waiting periods so they are spread throughout normal gameplay instead of spawning immediately one after another.
Only one scheduled Cat encounter is intended to happen at a time.
This means Stalking, Hide and Seek, Freeze, Stare, window encounters, door encounters, and the rare Final Trials can all occur naturally.
Commands are still included for testing but are not required for normal gameplay.
Horror Atmosphere
The mod includes custom:
-
Music
-
Evil laughs
-
Creepy ambient audio
-
Chainsaw sounds
-
Window knocking
-
Door knocking
-
Attack sounds
-
Reveal sounds
-
Vanishing effects
-
Darkness effects
-
Encounter-specific music
The special Hide and Seek song only plays during Hide and Seek and does not randomly play throughout the world.
Commands
The mod contains /cattest commands that allow different encounters to be tested manually.
These are primarily intended for testing and development. Normal players can experience the encounters naturally without using them.
Requirements
-
Minecraft: 1.20.1
-
Mod Loader: Forge
-
GeckoLib: Required
For the best experience, play in Survival Mode with headphones and avoid looking up every encounter before experiencing them.
