Cavernous
No reviews yet
Cavernous is a datapack that brings many new biomes and features to the caves of Minecraft while maintaining a vanilla like feeling.
Does not follow a specific thematic focus apart from vanilla Minecraft.
Includes a large focus on traversing worlds with enhanced world generation, structures, dungeons, and more for players to find unique loot.
Contains enhancements to cave generation, including ambience, decorative blocks, or changes to the noise generator itself.
Features structures with designs often found in RPG games, typically tiered and full of monsters or traps.
Features structures of no particular theme, or meant as background decoration.
General improvements to world generation, such as bug fixes, aesthetic overhauls, or misc additions.
Features new biomes or content focused on overhauling existing ones.
A project that is no longer receiving updates.
Data Packs were introduced to vanilla Minecraft in version 1.13 and allow the server to modify data about the game, or run commands. Data Packs are compatible with all mod loaders.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!
Cavernous is being discontinued in favor of Cavernous LITE. This means past 1.21.10 this version of Cavernous will not be officially supported. Please find Cavernous LITE here.
Cavernous is a vanilla-like datapack that adds 14+ new cave biomes, New structures, features and advancements and much more. From variants of the default caves, to biomes unlike any you've seen before, you'll never run out of things to explore in Cavernous' new underground.
BIOMES:
Volcanic Caves - Lava filled caves that house some great rewards but far greater risk. Also contains a new custom block called the geyser block, which launches you high in the air.
Splattered Caves - Standard caves with much more frequent placement of andesite, diorite, and granite.
Marshy Caves - Found under swamp biomes, these caves provide muddy terrain and giant sprawling roots hanging from the ceiling from the trees in the biomes above
Marble Caves - Like the standard caves except with walls of diorite and calcite.
Lush Dripstone Cave - A mix of the two vanilla cave biomes
Tropical Caves - Under the jungle biome a new cave generates that houses ancient temples and lush forests. Be weary as it houses some poisonous secrets.
Icy Caves - Found under mountains and cold biomes, these caves prove treacherous, from the slippery floors to the ever-present danger of powder snow. Extra ores and cave systems can be revealed by looking through layers of ice. It also spawns strays.
Fungal Caves - A packed lush environment that features giant mushrooms and other ancient plants. Explore these caves guided by the light of shroomlights and navigate through this dense undergound jungle.
Glowshroom Caves - Another mushroom filled biome with a little more bioluminescence.
Crystal Caves - Find huge sprawling geodes in these underground complexes that light up the walls with all sorts of amethyst crystals.
Arid & Desert Caves - Add a sandy underground that generate under dry biomes like badlands, deserts, and savannahs. Find huge dead bushes and cacti, and multiple new structures. Husks will spawn there and even drop sand.
Painted Caves - A rare variant of the desert caves that provide extra color to the underground

New mob variants - Will be added with the 1.0 release on July 14th.
Creepers - Now do slightly less environmental damage but leave behind a lingering cloud of poison

GEYSER DISCLAIMER
If you are using Cavernous on a server, you must have command blocks enabled. This is only so the geysers can generate and does not give anyone access to command blocks. You can do this by going to the server.properties file and setting "enable-command-block" to true.
You also cannot use other datapacks that unlock all recipes since it breaks certain features. An alternative datapack can be found here: https://wasdbuildteam.website/data-packs/unlock-all-recipes/
UPDATING FROM OLD CAVERNOUS VERSION
In order to update from a version released before Minecraft 1.20, you must delete the old Cavernous datapack in your world's datapack folder and then put in the new datapack (the one this read me belongs to) and drag the "CavernousCompatibility.zip" from the same folder into the datapack folder as well. You only have to do this once, every other time you upgrade to a new version the compatibility pack will still work.
