Description
Chronicle Tablets
Write your own history — and uncover the stories buried before it.
Chronicle Tablets is a vanilla-style archaeology and building mod that adds placeable stone tablets, permanent inscriptions, and ancient records hidden throughout the Minecraft world.
Created for the CurseForge ModJam 2026: Echoes of the Past, the mod is also designed as a standalone project that can continue expanding Minecraft’s archaeology and environmental storytelling.
Carve your own tablets
Create tablets from seven materials:
- Sandstone
- Red Sandstone
- Stone Bricks
- Tuff
- Deepslate
- Prismarine
- Blackstone
Tablets can be placed on the ground or mounted on walls, making them useful for monuments, graves, museums, temples, settlements, adventure maps, and server history.
Use the Mason’s Chisel to carve up to four lines of text and add a Material Sigil matching the tablet. Inscriptions can be coloured with any vanilla dye, made luminous with Glow Ink, and sealed with Honeycomb to protect them from further changes.
Everything written on a tablet remains stored when it is broken, carried, and placed somewhere else.
Preserve inscriptions
Use Rubbing Paper on a readable tablet to create an Inscription Rubbing.
Rubbings are portable, read-only copies of inscriptions. They can be opened and read in hand or used as templates when carving a new blank tablet.
Copied tablets remain ordinary player-created inscriptions. A rubbing preserves the record of where the text came from, but it can never duplicate the authenticity of an ancient Chronicle.
Restore the Lost Chronicles
Fourteen unique Lost Chronicles can be discovered through existing structure chests and archaeology loot.
Every Chronicle begins as an unreadable, weathered tablet. Hold a vanilla Brush against it to gradually restore the inscription through four stages:
- Unreadable
- Exposed
- Fragmentary
- Restored
Each stage reveals more of the tablet, from its Material Sigil to the complete four-line inscription and hidden title.
Lost Chronicles are authentic records and cannot be rewritten, recoloured, sealed, or forged. Once fully restored, their inscriptions can be preserved as authentic rubbings.
Find all fourteen Chronicles, uncover their stories, and become the Keeper of Chronicles.
