Description
Cobbledex × Field Guide Compat
An unofficial compatibility bridge between Cobbledex and Field Guide for Cobblemon 1.5.2 (Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge).
This mod does not replace or modify either mod — it simply teaches them to talk to each other, so scanning a Pokémon with Field Guide's spyglass mechanic also registers it in your Cobbledex, and the Cobbledex itself becomes usable as a scanning spyglass.
What it does
- The Cobbledex works as a spyglass. Shift + right-click the Cobbledex to start channeling it just like a vanilla spyglass — complete with zoom and its own lens overlay.
- Dual registration. Whenever a scan completes (whether through a normal spyglass or through the Cobbledex itself), the scanned Pokémon is registered in both Field Guide and the Cobbledex as "seen."
- Dynamic zoom. While channeling, scroll the mouse wheel to zoom in/out smoothly, from a subtle 1.1x up to 5x magnification. Your zoom level is remembered between uses.
- Scan HUD. A progress bar ("Identifying...") appears while a scan is in progress; once complete, the Pokémon's name and an "Added!" confirmation fade in and out.
- Sound feedback. Distinct sounds for opening the scope, adjusting zoom, an ongoing "scanning" beep that rises in pitch as the scan progresses, and a confirmation chime on completion.
- Immersive view. Your hand/item is hidden while looking through the lens, just like the vanilla spyglass.
Controls
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Shift + right-click with the Cobbledex | Enter spyglass mode: zoom + lens overlay + Field Guide scan reticle. On completion, registers in both Field Guide and the Cobbledex. |
| Right-click (no shift) with the Cobbledex | Cobbledex's original behavior is untouched — registers the nearest Pokémon as seen, opens its entry, or opens the collection GUI. |
| Mouse wheel (while channeling) | Adjusts zoom level dynamically (1.1x–5x). |
| Normal spyglass on a Pokémon | Scans as usual with Field Guide, and now also registers the Pokémon in the Cobbledex. |
Requirements
This is a compatibility patch, not a standalone mod. You need all of the following installed:
- Cobblemon 1.5.2 (Forge, 1.20.1)
- Cobbledex 1.1.0
- Field Guide 1.8.3
- Minecraft Forge 1.20.1
⚠️ Built and tested against the specific versions above. Other versions of Cobbledex or Field Guide may not be compatible, since the bridge hooks into their internal APIs.
Notes
- This is a fan-made, unofficial addon. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by the authors of Cobbledex, Field Guide, or Cobblemon.
- No assets, code, or resources from those mods are included or redistributed — this mod only adds a thin compatibility layer on top of your existing installations.
- Server-side and client-side install required on all participating clients (it uses client rendering for the zoom/lens/HUD and a small server-side hook for registration).
