Description

Lapras Ferry Lines

Ferry lines for Cobblemon. Put a post on two shores, link them, and your Lapras carries players, villagers and cargo between them on a timetable.

Overview

This is an addon inspired by Create's trains but in Pokemon theme and auto routing, adding a ferry system and sky taxies.

There are over twenty ferry species, only a couple has polished animations and a proper mechanic, but others are supported for now just as to be worked on (They still work nicely tho)

It is made for survival. The Pokemon earns Exp and friendship while it ferries the ferry. It gets along with villages, Create and the map mods (Xaero/Journyemap/Bluemap), with compat with most of them.

Installation

Minecraft 1.21.1 - Cobblemon 1.8.0+, NeoForge 21.1.250+; Required on both client and server

Ferry lines

A Mooring Post is a bollard on the shore, and each one is a stop. Right click a post with a Ferry Ticket, then another, and the two are linked. Keep clicking posts to add more stops, click the first one again to make a loop, or sneak to finish. The ferry Pokemon in your party that suits the stops best goes to work: a water ship on water, a lava ship on lava, a flyer where nothing can sail. With no ferry Pokemon on you the line is linked anyway, and waits for one.

Routes are planned through the water you actually have, at any height: up and down waterfalls, through caves, under headlands for the divers and over the land for the flyers. Hold a ticket to see nearby routes as particle trails. If no route can be found, the line tells you why.

While it works, the Pokemon keeps its stats, held item and Exp, and earns Exp and a little friendship for every crossing. Take it off the line and it comes back to your party, or to your PC if the party is full.

The ferries

Each line runs one species. Every ship has slightly different mechanics, the ones in bold means it has polished mechanics and animations, ones not in bold means I just threw it in for fun and will take proper care of them later.

Species Line
Lapras The standard ferry, nothing funny
Sharpedo Speedboat for one, surfed standing. Rams hostile mobs, dives.
Lanturn Night ferry. Glows, gives Night Vision + mob repel
Mantine Carries three riders of any size, horses and animals on a lead included.
Wailord A liner for twelve with a back you can walk around on. Very fat, needs wide water.
Basculegion Express, nothing funny
Milotic Slow cruise. Villagers pay triple and riders heal.
Dhelmise Cargo submarine with a hold the size of a double chest. Dives.
Golisopod Walks over sandbars, flat shores and sea ice.
Avalugg Icebreaker with an open deck for 8.
Whiscash Submarine. Its stations can be flooded caverns deep underground.
Pelipper Flies stop to stop over anything, one rider in its bill.
Corviknight Flies cargo and two riders where no water joins the posts.
Dragonite Rescue flyer, nothing funny
Drifblim Crosses between dimensions through a pair of Gate Posts.
Magcargo Sails lava, in the Nether or anywhere.
Gyarados Climbs waterfalls and leaps short necks of land.
Orthworm Swims through deserts, badlands and soul sand valleys.
Mudsdale Overland coach between villages, keeping to their streets.
Rapidash Overland express that leaps rivers and ravines. Galarian too.
Latios, Latias The fastest ships. Run one of each and they fly as a pair.
Blastoise Naval warfare

With Mega Showdown installed, Sharpedo, Golisopod, Latios and Latias holding their own Mega Stone are drawn as their Mega. A datapack can change any species' numbers or add a species of its own.

Good to knows

  1. Right click any sign near a post with a Ferry Ticket and it becomes a schedule sign, showing the stop and the time until the next ferry. Write your own text around <stop>, <time>, <line> and <ship>.

  2. Giving Lapras a chest as cosmetic item works outside of the ferry system and works as a portal inventory if you carry the Pokemon around, accessible by sneak right click after sending it out

Openable inventory: image

  1. You can have up to 6 Pokemons per line running like a fleet, this number is dynamic

  2. Mantines can have a dyable saddle as cosmetic item to make them dive harder

Passengers and cargo

Villagers near a post walk over, board, pick a stop further along and pay emeralds by distance. Collect the fares at the post, or give the line a home post where they gather. Any other mob will ride if you hand it a Ferry Ticket, and a villager given one rides free.

Important note to servers, might want to turn on max emeralds per trip for balancing to stop players from making a circular line a million blocks long for a few thousand stacks of emerald blocks per trip, please do check the emerald fare configs and tune it if needed, supports CobbleDollars

Hold any item up to a post and pick another stop to send it as a parcel. The next ship carries it, and anyone can collect it at the far end.

For freight, give a Lapras a chest as its cosmetic item and it wears saddlebags with 27 slots. Dhelmise, Corviknight and Mudsdale have holds of their own. An Industrial Mooring Post lets hoppers and item pipes load and unload the ships docked at it, with a filter slot on each side (Create's filters work too), a comparator output, and a redstone signal to hold a ship at the dock.

Held item Effect
Choice Scarf 1.5x speed, one passenger
Lagging Tail Half speed, double fares
Mystic Water 3x speed in the rain
Sea Incense, Wave Incense 2x speed on long routes
Float Stone 2x acceleration
Quick Claw Leaves as soon as nobody is waiting
Relic Coin, Luck Incense Double fares
Lucky Egg Double Exp
Cleanse Tag Hostile mobs ignore the passengers
Leftovers Sometimes leaves a snack at the dock
Magnet Sweeps up loose items it passes
Rocky Helmet, Life Orb, Toxic Orb and others Rams hostile mobs in its way

Ferry Berth

A pier bollard where a ferry Pokemon is tied up when it isn't working. It looks round, watches you walk up, calls out now and then and sleeps at night. Feed it or pet it for a little friendship. By day it fishes, and the catch goes into a chest or hopper beside the bollard. Pokemon moored near a line can join its fleet.

Maps and tooltips

With Xaero's Minimap, Xaero's World Map or JourneyMap, every post shows as a dock, every line as a route in its own colour, and every ship as a marker moving along it. You can link and unlink your lines from the full screen map. A server running BlueMap shows the same on its web map, with nothing for players to install. With Jade, WTHIT or The One Probe, looking at a post tells you its line, its stop and when the next ferry is due.

For servers

A line is data ticked by the server, and its Pokemon are only spawned where someone is nearby, so there are no chunk loaders and lines cost very little while nobody is around. Route planning runs in small slices and never generates new terrain. A line that errors is paused and logged while the rest keep running.

You can limit lines per player. Only the owner or an operator can break a linked post, and explosions leave posts standing. Claims from Open Parties and Claims, FTB Chunks and the Common Protection API are respected. A player who logs out mid crossing is set ashore at the next stop. Fares can be any item, or a payout command for currencies like CobbleDollars.

Everything else is in config/laprasferry-common.toml, or the config screen from the mods list.

Cobblemon's own Pokémon models and animations are used.
