ConfigSentry

ConfigSentry helps keep Minecraft instances and modpacks clean by detecting configuration files that may belong to mods that are no longer installed.

Large modpacks frequently accumulate old files inside config/ and defaultconfigs/ after mods are removed. ConfigSentry automatically compares these files against the currently installed mod list and classifies them according to confidence.

 Smart Detection

Each configuration is classified as:

• OK — A matching installed mod was found.
• HIGH — The configuration most likely belongs to a previously installed mod that has since been removed.
• MEDIUM — The filename strongly resembles a mod configuration, but no reliable installed-mod match was found.
• UNKNOWN — ConfigSentry cannot safely determine the owner.

ConfigSentry uses persistent mod history, filename normalization, aliases and weighted matching to reduce false positives.

Safe by Design

ConfigSentry never permanently deletes files automatically.

Potentially orphaned configurations can instead be moved into a timestamped quarantine directory and restored later if necessary.

Available commands include:

/configsentry scan

Runs a new configuration scan.

/configsentry status

Displays a summary of the latest scan.

/configsentry report

Shows the generated reports.

/configsentry explain <file>

Explains why a configuration received its current classification.

/configsentry quarantine-high

Moves HIGH-confidence orphaned files into quarantine.

/configsentry restore-last

Restores the most recent quarantine operation.

 Detailed Reports

ConfigSentry generates several report formats:

• TXT
• JSON
• HTML

The HTML report provides a cleaner interface with search, filters and status summaries.

Reports are stored inside:

config/configsentry/

In-game messages automatically follow the Minecraft language selected by the player.

 Custom Rules

Custom mappings can be added through:

config/configsentry/aliases.json

Files that should intentionally be excluded from detection can be added through:

config/configsentry/ignore.json

This is especially useful for modpack-specific configuration files and custom scripts.

 Modpack Friendly

ConfigSentry is designed to work well with large modpacks where hundreds of configuration files can accumulate over time.

It can be used by players, modpack developers and server administrators to identify obsolete files without manually comparing every configuration against hundreds of installed mods.
