Description
Corpse History Fix
A focused client compatibility fix for Corpse death history on Minecraft 1.21.1.
The problem
Opening a sufficiently large death history can disconnect the player with an NbtAccounterException. A history can exceed the NBT accounting budget even when its compressed packet is comparatively small.
Why it happens
The original history packet uses Minecraft's ordinary 2 MiB NBT decoder. Large lists of death records exceed that accounting budget before the history screen opens.
Scope of the fix
- Raises only the Corpse open-history decoder budget to a finite 32 MiB.
- Retains the native nesting-depth limit of 512 and the original packet format.
- Keeps the ordinary NBT decoder and other packets at their original limits.
Death records, corpses, items, recovery permissions and history retention settings remain unchanged. Histories exceeding the new finite budget remain outside this tactical fix.
Compatibility
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.235
- Java 21
- Corpse 1.21.1-1.1.13 or 1.21.1-1.1.21
Install on the client. The server does not need this addon; it keeps sending the original packet format. Those two official Corpse versions were checked. Do not keep a second copy of the earlier private history fix.
From Steam & Steel
The addon originated in Steam & Steel SMP, our custom Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge server modpack. It is available independently of the full modpack.
The original required mod is installed separately. SteamSteelCore and the full Steam & Steel modpack are not required.

Beta / Feedback
This is a beta release. It originated in problems encountered on our Steam & Steel SMP server within a specific modpack. The public addon has local checks; compatibility with other modpacks still needs feedback.
If you encounter a crash, an error or unexpected behaviour, please leave a comment with your Minecraft, NeoForge, original-mod and addon versions and the relevant error or crash report, plus steps to reproduce the problem. We will investigate reported bugs and work on fixes.
The native packet decoder is checked on both supported versions with actual NBT and death records, an original failing history, round trips and bounded rejection cases. Affected-player gameplay after installing this public package remains to be confirmed.
