Cosmic Decor

Cosmic Decor is a creative mod that adds a lot of new blocks, mobs, strange mechanics, custom redstone features, a brand-new stacked dimension, and plenty more.

This mod is still less than halfway finished, but it is already about 64.6 MB, because I tend to make more of everything once I get an idea going. Expect the mod to keep growing.

Performance Warning

Cosmic Decor can be demanding, especially when using some of the larger visual effects, custom dimensions, animated blocks, fog systems, and moving light or shadow effects.

A decent computer is highly recommended. Lower-end systems may need reduced render distance, particle settings, or graphics settings for smoother gameplay.

The Stacked Dimension

The Stacked Dimension has a much higher building area than a normal Minecraft world and is split into different vertical zones.

  • Anything below Y 303 becomes pink and foggy.

  • Anything above Y 303 is normally clear.

  • Thick rolling fog can move through different areas, so be wary.

  • The dimension currently has two larger biomes with solid floating terrain.

  • Smaller sky biomes can also appear around Y 500 and higher, using stone, grass, and other terrain.

  • More biomes, structures, and other content are planned.

The dimension is currently only accessible through commands. Sorry about that for now.

Use a command similar to:

/execute in cosmicdecor:dimension_name run tp ~ ~ ~

After typing cosmicdecor:, the dimension name should appear as an option.

Cosmic Decoration

Cosmic Decor contains a large collection of building blocks, decoration blocks, plants, leaves, wood types, lighting, furniture-style pieces, and stranger blocks that may take some experimenting.

Infinity Blocks

Infinity Blocks should be used carefully and in limited amounts. They can create very large or unusual visual effects, so placing too many may affect performance.

Invisible Planetarium Block

The Invisible Planetarium Block is safe to use, but it should still be placed wisely.

Set it up as part of a planetarium and watch it cycle through 24 different images, creating a changing sky or display effect.

Steps

Steps work a lot like stairs, but they do not automatically reshape themselves while being moved by pistons.

That is intentional.

Other than that, they generally work like normal stair-style blocks.

Wood and Leaves

There are many new wood types and 16 new leaf types.

The leaves can also be useful for datapacks or custom trees, especially when you want to change up the normal Minecraft tree style.

Napella Trees

Napella Trees are a very invasive tree species.

They also produce rainbow sap, along with a new sap bottle and empty bottle. Be careful where you plant them because they may spread more than expected.

Crafting and Discovering Items

There are many, many things to explore, craft, test, and discover.

I highly recommend using a recipe-viewing mod such as JEI, REI, EMI, or another mod that displays crafting recipes, because my recipes are currently all over the place.

I do plan to organize and explain more of them, but I am also a Gemini-Taurus cusp doing graveyard security for around 84 hours every two weeks, making YouTube and TikTok content, experimenting as a food alchemist, and generally finding more ways to stay busy.

So yes, I am a full busybody, and I will probably become even busier.

Custom Enchantments

Cosmic Decor includes custom enchantments, although some are not currently available through the normal enchantment rotation.

Planned or existing examples include:

  • Fishing rod enchantments that increase grabbing distance.

  • Increased attraction range for fishing.

  • Protection that allows special fishing in lava.

  • Yes, lava fishing is a thing.

More enchantments and better ways to obtain them are planned.

Custom Doors

These are not normal Minecraft doors.

They work more like actual hinged doors.

After placing one, shift-click the hinges to change how the door is arranged or how it opens.

The doors can:

  • Open and remain open as double doors.

  • Close after players leave the nearby area.

  • React to redstone power.

  • Float without needing normal support.

  • Be moved by pistons.

The redstone connection needs to reach the bottom section, almost as though the entire door is one large block.

One warning: opening the doors while they are actively being moved can sometimes cause them to become locked or stuck.

Drop Lamps

Drop Lamps are lamps that can fall.

When powered, they can stop falling. When triggered again, they can continue dropping.

This allows them to be used for moving lights, falling decorations, redstone traps, elevators, strange machinery, or whatever other chaos you can come up with.

Augmented Torches

Augmented Torches are created by combining normal torches with Echo Shards directly in the world.

Creating an Augmented Torch

  1. Hold an Echo Shard.

  2. Right-click almost any torch.

  3. The original torch disappears.

  4. A sound and particle effect plays.

  5. An Augmented Torch drops.

  6. One Echo Shard is consumed unless you are in Creative Mode.

A lit torch becomes an Augmented Torch.

An unlit or off torch becomes an Off Augmented Torch.

This may also work with many modded torches, as long as the block name contains the word torch.

Augmented Torch — On

Carry light with you wherever you go.

While held in either hand, the Augmented Torch creates a moving field of invisible maximum-brightness Light Blocks around the player.

This can brightly illuminate caves, buildings, tunnels, and other dark areas without permanently placing torches everywhere.

The light follows the player and disappears automatically when the torch is no longer being held.

In simple terms:

Augmented Torch On = portable light.

Augmented Torch — Off

Carry the darkness instead.

While held, the Off Augmented Torch creates a moving shell of invisible shadow blocks around the player.

The shell includes walls and a roof, helping reduce outside light and creating a portable dark area. A custom dark-gray gloom fog also surrounds the player, making nearby areas harder to see.

The shadow blocks follow the player and disappear when the torch is no longer being held.

In simple terms:

Augmented Torch Off = portable darkness.

Augmented Lamps

Augmented Lamps are stationary versions of the same general light-and-dark idea.

Augmented Lamp — On

The lit Augmented Lamp works as a strong decorative light source.

It is useful for large rooms, sci-fi builds, outdoor lighting, strange laboratories, or anywhere that needs powerful permanent illumination.

Augmented Lamp — Off

The unlit Augmented Lamp creates an area of darkness using invisible shadow blocks.

It also applies custom gloom fog to nearby players, making it useful for:

  • Haunted builds.

  • Horror maps.

  • Dark forests.

  • Mysterious ruins.

  • Underground areas.

  • Creepy laboratories.

  • Places that are simply not supposed to feel safe.

In simple terms:

Augmented Lamp On = permanent illumination.

Augmented Lamp Off = permanent gloom.

Some glass versions may not have crafting recipes yet.

Redstone and Movable Blocks

Redstone has some interesting new perks in Cosmic Decor.

Pistons can move several vanilla blocks that Minecraft normally refuses to move, while keeping their stored data, contents, names, text, and other information.

Movable Storage Blocks

  • Chest.

  • Trapped Chest.

  • Barrel.

Items stored inside should remain inside after the block is moved.

Movable Furnaces

  • Furnace.

  • Blast Furnace.

  • Smoker.

These should preserve their inventories, fuel, cooking progress, stored experience, and other block data.

Movable Signs

Most vanilla standing and wall signs can be moved, including signs made from:

  • Oak.

  • Spruce.

  • Birch.

  • Jungle.

  • Acacia.

  • Dark Oak.

  • Mangrove.

  • Cherry.

  • Bamboo.

  • Crimson.

  • Warped.

  • Pale Oak.

  • Other vanilla sign types that use the normal Minecraft sign system.

Sign text, colors, glowing text, wax state, and other saved information should remain after movement.

More movable blocks may be added later, possibly including additional redstone components such as repeaters, comparators, and redstone dust. Those need more testing first, so they are planned rather than promised.

❤️ Inspiration

One of my biggest goals with Cosmic Decor isn't just to add more content.

It's to encourage other modders to think outside the classic Minecraft box.

Vanilla Minecraft is amazing, but I also believe there are a lot of mechanics that feel like they could exist alongside vanilla without replacing it. Sometimes all it takes is seeing a weird idea before someone else builds an even better one.

I don't want to remake vanilla. I want to add new vanilla—features that feel like they belong in Minecraft while still being something you've probably never seen before.

If Cosmic Decor inspires even one person to experiment with custom mechanics, dimensions, rendering, redstone, lighting, or completely new ideas, then I'll consider that a success.

Minecraft modding grows because people inspire each other.

📜 License

Cosmic Decor is released under the MIT License.

That means you're welcome to learn from the code, modify it, build upon it, and use it in your own projects while keeping the original license and copyright notice.

I chose MIT because I hope Cosmic Decor inspires other modders to experiment and think outside the normal Minecraft box. If my weird ideas help someone create something even cooler, then that's a win in my book.

📦 Modpacks

Yes! Feel free to include Cosmic Decor in your modpacks.

No permission is required.

If you make something fun with it, I'd love to see screenshots, videos, builds, or anything creative you come up with.

⚠️ Compatibility

Cosmic Decor uses custom mixins, custom rendering code, and modifies several vanilla systems.

While I try to keep compatibility as high as possible, conflicts can happen with mods that modify the same Minecraft code.

Possible conflicts include:

  • Mods that replace or heavily modify piston mechanics.
  • Mods that add their own movable block entity systems.
  • Mods that replace Minecraft rendering.
  • Mods that modify fog rendering or lighting.
  • Other mods using mixins on the same vanilla classes.

This doesn't mean Cosmic Decor is incompatible with those mods—it simply means there is a higher chance of conflicts if two mods try to change the exact same game behavior.

If you discover an incompatibility, please let me know. I'll always see if there's a reasonable way to improve compatibility.

Due to this it is also locked in at 1.21.8 neoforge due to minecraft keep changing everything 24/7.

🚧 Still Growing

Cosmic Decor is nowhere near finished.

This description doesn't even cover everything currently in the mod, and the mod itself is still less than halfway complete.

There are many more ideas planned:

  • More blocks.
  • More mobs.
  • More dimensions.
  • More decorations.
  • More redstone.
  • More mechanics.
  • More structures.
  • More surprises.
  • Probably a few ideas I haven't even thought of yet.

I also have a habit of turning one idea into twenty. A simple block can suddenly become sixteen variants, a new biome, three lamps, a custom renderer, and somehow an entirely different mechanic.

So expect unfinished content, missing recipes, experimental features, odd behavior, and lots of changes between updates.

Player feedback, testing, screenshots, bug reports, videos, and creative builds are always appreciated.

Thank you for giving Cosmic Decor a try. I hope it inspires you to build something weird, fun, and completely outside the normal Minecraft box. Happy building! 🐱✨
