Description

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Mod

There's a specific kind of dread that comes not from what chases you, but from what leaves you. This mod isn't about monsters lurking in the dark or a jump scare around every corner. It's about something far quieter and far worse — the slow, irreversible unraveling of your own mind.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a real prion disorder. It eats holes in your brain. Literally. And this mod tries, in the most honest way a Minecraft experience can, to make you feel what that might be like.

What's Actually Happening To You

The mod tracks your playtime and quietly pushes your character through four stages of cognitive decline. Nothing announces itself. Things just start feeling... off.

Stage One — Vague Uneasiness It starts small. A recipe you've crafted a hundred times doesn't look quite right. A sound in the distance that you can't place. Letters in the UI shift when you aren't paying close attention. You'll probably dismiss it. That's the point.

Stage Two — Cognitive Dissonance Now it's harder to ignore. Blocks you placed aren't where you left them. Dark figures stand at the edge of your render distance — still, faceless, watching. Your inputs start betraying you. You reach for something and your hands do something else entirely.

Stage Three — Sponge World This is where the mod earns its name. The terrain develops holes — not cave holes, wrong holes, the kind that don't belong. The sky goes dark. Sounds stretch and echo like they're traveling through water. A diamond pickaxe appears in your inventory and your character simply cannot comprehend it anymore. It becomes a stick. Because that's all your mind can hold.

Stage Four — The Void You don't get a warning. Control leaves you. The camera lifts slowly toward a blinding white, broken glass cutting through the silence. Then your save file is deleted. The game closes. Whatever you built is gone, and there's nothing marking that it was ever there.

The Details That Make It Work

The lying. System messages will congratulate you on things you didn't do. Buildings rearrange themselves the moment you turn around. The game gaslights you with confidence.

The forgetting. Complex crafting doesn't fail — it succeeds, and produces Useless Junk. Advanced tools regress to sticks mid-use. The problem was never the recipe. The problem is you.

The sound design. Audio doesn't just glitch — it decays. Sounds slow down, fold over themselves, drift between your ears in ways that feel genuinely wrong at a neurological level. If you're wearing headphones, it gets under your skin.

The Watchers. Entities with no faces that appear on the horizon and do nothing but stand there. Look at them long enough and the game may crash — or simulate one — and when it reopens, they're next to you. Whispering your coordinates back to you.
