CRY_0 — Update 1.8.1
You can still recognize your world.
Enjoy that while it lasts.
CRY_0 is a slow-burning horror mod for Minecraft Java 1.20.1 — Forge, featuring 33 events, 330 threatening dialogue lines, and a five-book storyline. Encounters occur naturally, escalating from watching to intimidation and hunting.
For the best experience, discover the changes yourself.
⚠ SPOILER WARNING — The following section reveals events and mechanics.
A World Losing Its Face
Three encounters attack the appearance of your world:
- Texture Void: blocks and most items lose their surface textures. Shapes remain—but familiar landmarks become unrecognizable.
- Face Erasure: player skins become featureless, while a familiar-looking double enters the scene.
- Total Erasure: the environment and player skins lose their textures together. Then the hunt begins.
These effects temporarily replace rendered textures with plain surfaces. They do not delete game files, and textures return afterward. Some specially rendered items and third-party skins may remain unaffected.
He Does Not Need a Sword
CRY_0 alternates between sword attacks and faster bare-handed strikes. He still uses a bow at range and a pickaxe when obstacles block his path.
An empty hand is not a sign of mercy.
The Main Menu Is Not Empty
Subtle red disturbances, unsettling messages, and glimpses of CRY_0 can appear on the title screen. After visiting a world, the message changes.
Leaving the world does not mean leaving the atmosphere behind.
More Reliable Event Commands
Version 1.8.1 fixes manual events being silently blocked by the shared cooldown. Manually triggered events now replace the previous encounter and can run in Creative mode or after completing the story.
Scripted delays and terrain requirements still apply. Automatic encounters retain their normal pacing.
Before You Play
Back up your worlds. CRY_0 can permanently alter terrain and damage builds.
Use a fresh world when upgrading from 1.7.0; those saves may not load correctly with this release.
Contains sudden sounds, pursuit, threatening dialogue, blood-like particles, and unsettling visual effects.
Tested: 18 server tests passed, including consecutive command launches for all 33 events.
