Details
Rather than choosing a fixed class with a predetermined spell list, players combine different magical skills to create a personalized Curse. Every Curse is assembled from four core components:
- Element: What the Curse controls, such as water, metal, light, emotion, objects, creation, or travel.
- Style: How the Curse is used, such as shaping matter, casting through cards, opening portals, summoning spirits, or manipulating movement.
- Fuel: The substance, emotion, object, or resource that restores the player’s magical energy.
- Weakness: A specific force or condition that disrupts the Curse, drains additional mana, or causes increased damage.
These components work together to determine the player’s spells, passive abilities, visual effects, equipment, and limitations. For example, combining Shape, Color, Joy, and Flow could create a Voxelmancer Curse that constructs objects from colorful pixels, is fueled by positive emotion, and is weakened by water.
The mod’s spell system is modular. Each selected skill contributes spells that can interact with the other parts of the Curse. A water-based Curse might create waves, ice barriers, underwater movement, or pulling currents. A card-based Curse could store these effects inside collectible spell cards. Because the modules combine, the same skill can behave very differently depending on the rest of the Curse.
Players begin with a limited mana pool and unlock additional spells as they level up. Spells have different mana costs, casting times, cooldowns, ranges, and power levels. Resting, touching a fuel source, consuming resources, or completing Curse-specific actions can restore mana.
Certain combinations can also unlock Special Spirits. These are advanced combination abilities that go beyond ordinary spells. A Special Spirit might introduce a custom interface, summon a unique creature, create a new crafting system, grant a specialized item, or completely change how the player uses their Curse.
This means two players can select similar magic and still have completely different abilities. One metal user might create armor and weapons, while another controls magnetic movement through enchanted keys. One portal user might focus on transportation, while another stores portals inside paintings or cards.
The goal of Curse Breakers is to make magic feel creative rather than restrictive. Every Curse provides great power, but every Curse also has rules, costs, fuel requirements, and weaknesses. Players are encouraged to experiment, discover powerful combinations, and create an ability that feels entirely their own.
Your Curse is not simply a spell list.
It is a custom-built magic system.
