Dachshund Companions

Bring little sausage dogs into your world! This mod adds dachshunds with long bodies, short legs, floppy ears, wagging tails, and adorable puppies. Tame them, breed them, and explore together.

Finding dachshunds: Look in plains, forests, and flower forests. They can spawn in groups of 2–4. If you have trouble finding them, try exploring new areas.

How to tame your dog:

  1. Hold a bone and right-click an untamed dachshund.
  2. Keep offering bones until hearts appear. Taming may take several bones.
  3. Your tamed dog will follow you and help you in combat.

Right-click your dog with an empty hand to make it sit or stand. A sitting dog stays where you leave it.

Feeding and breeding: Feed your dog meat, such as beef, to restore its health. To breed puppies, tame two adult dachshunds, make sure both are standing and fully healed, then feed each one meat. Hearts appear, and they produce a puppy.

Puppies grow into adults over time. Feeding them suitable food speeds up their growth. Bred puppies inherit an owner and independently inherit their coat color and fur type from either parent. Dachshunds cannot crossbreed with wolves.

Coat colors: 

Newly spawned dogs randomly receive one of five coats:

Coat Spawn chance
Red 40%
Black and tan 25%
Chocolate and tan 15%
Cream 15%
Dapple 5%

Newly spawned dogs also have an independent 20% chance of shaggy fur, with chest tufts, fringed ears, and a little beard. Puppies can be shaggy too!

For breeding, each trait has a 50/50 chance of coming from either parent. Two shaggy parents produce shaggy puppies; two smooth parents produce smooth puppies. Appearance is saved when you leave the world.

Personalizing your companion: 

Right-click a tamed dachshund with dye to change its collar color. Name tags and leads also work.

Creative mode: Search for Dachshund Spawn Egg. Use it on the ground to spawn a dog, or on an adult dachshund to create a puppy.
