About
Description
Dark Realm is a Forge 1.20.1 adventure mod built around souls, legendary weapons, and a hostile otherworld. Gather essence from the dead, forge gear from it, open a portal into a flat black plain under a dead sky, and challenge Death himself.
The soul economy
Fallen enemies leave Broken Souls. Combine them into Souls, then Soul Gems—the core currency of progression. Gems fuel crafting, stronger equipment, and the key to the dimension. Soul Steel armor is forged from souls and iron. Enchantments Soul Trap and Barter improve how many souls you reclaim from each kill.
The Dark Realm
Use a Soul Gem Star on a cluster of Soul Portal Frames to cross over. The dimension is intentionally stark and flat: a glossy Void Glass surface at y=67, dense Dark Stone below, no caves, and Soul Ore generating around y=20. The sky stays locked in night. Soul storms and eclipse-like pressure can wear you down while you explore. Use the Star on frames again to return.
Enemies and Death
Lost Souls roam in numbers and may carry only weak melee weapons—never bows. Wounded Souls hit harder and fight empty-handed. Shapeshifters are fast and teleport when struck. Death is the realm’s boss: he must be challenged before the real fight begins, appears with a boss bar, and drops Knight Rein and Death’s Totem. The Totem saves you from death without being consumed, on a 30-second cooldown. A Crow offers the first breadcrumb of the quest—right-click it for guidance and a Crow’s Message.
Weapons and combat
Medieval and legendary arms—club, quarterstaff, war hammer, messer, katana, Dawnbreaker, Chillrend, Excalibur, and Knight Rein—use 3D-style held models. With Epic Fight installed (optional), they map to proper movesets such as sword, longsword, greatsword, uchigatana, and tachi.
Exploration and progression
Graveyard structures can appear with stone markers and portal-frame altars. Advancements follow the intended path: first broken soul, bound soul, soul gem, entering the realm, speaking with the Crow, defeating Lost Souls, forging Soul Steel, claiming Excalibur, and finally challenging Death.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge
- Epic Fight optional (recommended for full weapon combat feel)
Dark Realm is a playable foundation for a larger design: soul progression, a distinct dimension, signature weapons, and a boss fight—with room to grow into deeper quests, structures, and custom mob models.
