About
Description
There is a major problem in the mod community; You have a modpack and there is Just Enough Items which spoils everything. Larger modpacks can be very fun but very discouraging to the casual fan. The casual fan is more important than the deep fan after all; Without them a modpack cannot grow in community. Large packs are discouraging because: OMG THERE ARE OVER 100 PAGES!! THIS WILL TAKE FOREVER!!! Also without the input of anything new, those >100 pages become boring fast.
I mean wasn't it more fun without JEI, back when you could play Biomes o' Plenty many times and only just discovered ebony trees exist?
You could remove JEI but... How do you craft this again?
As an added bonus, if the player has not seen the mod list, a mod especially a small one can hide in a long played world without JEI. That has been actually observed in survival. This also has been proven to cause players to experiment more. Yes: You learn more by being told less.
Now what does this mod do for the problem?
Discover hides everything in JEI at the start of a modpack. As you click on items or blocks they appear in JEI. Once you have found all the ingredients and the required crafting station, recipes will appear too. Even recipes that craft undiscovered things will appear as long as all ingredients are discovered. That way you can get a hint but not a spoiler. This is how you learn new things in the pack.
When an item is discovered, a bell sound will play so you know you found something new.
Items that aren't discovered still render their texture but uses an obfuscated name of the same length. No tooltip will show either for those unknown items. This is another hint. The name tells you what it is but the texture makes you guess.
Discover saves and loads the same data for every world in the game directory. That is because the mod focuses on the players experience.
FAQ:
Q: Can I share this...?
A: You can share the link or the non-comercial modpack. You may NOT repost this anywhere. This page is on Modrinth only to clarify. YOU CANNOT MAKE MONEY FROM MY MOD!
Q: Can I use this in my modpack?
A: You cannot use this in modpacks with any form of purchase around it, not even donation perks or locking behind paid servers for downloads.
Q: Can you please port to X version/mod loader?
A: At some point. This mod can only be ported to an adjecient version. So no 1.10 until 1.11 is done. This will not be ported to newer versions as JEI removed fundamental recipe type code. So, a new Discover is already being made in 1.20.1 which takes an entirely different approach. I kept the name because of the objective but it is not the same mod.
Q: What will 1.20.1 Discover look like?
A: It is not a jei dependancy, instead it IS the recipe viewer. Discover takes a different approach to recipe viewing. It still has the basic functionallity of click to discover something. Once all ingredients are found, the recipe book gets the recipe. Recipe advancements are now removed. This system should support any mod that coded their stations well as it uses the vanilla recipe system.
Q: Can I use this in my video?
A: Yes
