Dragon Movement Fix

Fixes the old bug introduced in 1.14 where the Ender Dragon's Vertical Movement is very slow. Effectively patches out one-cycling. If you've fought the dragon in 1.12 or 1.13 you might know what this is.

Description

Dragon Movement Fix

About

Dragon Movement Fix is a Minecraft datapack to fix MC-272431, a bug introduced in 1.14 snapshot 19w08b where a typo in the Ender Dragon's vertical movement code causes erratic behavior from the Ender Dragon, such as slowly gliding down to perch instead of diving to the central bedrock podium. This works on literally every version of the game that has this bug, including the snapshot the bug first appeared in, due to the pack's simplistic implementation.

If you've ever fought the dragon in an older version like 1.12 or 1.13, you might know what I'm talking about.

Patches out one-cycling and other strategies that rely on MC-272431.

Questions/Issues? Post them in my discord as they are more likely to get seen there. Find it on the sidebar.

Dependencies

  • Fabric API (Fabric/Quilt mod only)
  • A newer version of Minecraft (Forge Mod version only, specific required version unknown)

To Modpack Creators:

I permit the use of this datapack/mod in your modpacks. You can include it in modpacks without the need to ask me about it. However, notifying me if it is being included in your modpack would be nice.

To Developers

You may depend on, make mods (somehow) for, and help contribute to this project. However, if you wish to publish this project elsewhere/post a fork of this project, I would like if you asked me for permission beforehand. Note: contributions that would cause me to drop support for one or more game versions will not get accepted.

To Content Creators/Streamers

I am completely fine with, and even encourage, creating of content with this project. If you do, it would be very appreciated if you would please credit this project and link to this page if you use this in your content/stream.

Notes

  • This datapack isn't perfect, and has some issues related to the dragon's vertical velocity, most of which aren't fixable without heavily altering the pack and causing it to drop support for older versions of Minecraft (there's already Customizable Dragon AI that has a lot of the issues fixed, along with a bunch more features, but only supporting 1.20.3 and newer), for example explosions will cause the dragon to launch 10x as high as it would normally, for one tick only, before going back to a normal-ish amount of knockback.

Trivia

Some fun facts about this project!

  • Funny thing, I probably won't ever have to make a change to how the pack works in order to support a version because it doesn't use any commands that Mojang are going to change in a way that breaks the pack in the forseeable future. The only reason this pack would need to be updated is to fix a bug or add something.
    • Which means v1.1.5 is likely the last version of this pack until Mojang does something somehow to break this pack which is likely going to be never.
    • This project was created AFTER my other similar project, Customizable Dragon AI, despite this being uploaded BEFORE it.
