Description
Dragons is a Minecraft dragon mod: tame, saddle and ride your own dragon! Hatch a dragon egg, raise a baby dragon and fly six elemental dragons – fire, frost, lightning, venom, void and water – or breed 36 hybrid dragons.
★ NEW UPDATE 1.2 IS OUT! ★
Power dives, sprint, bigger dragons with 30 % bigger wings, abilities that reach a third further, a new ability ring – and your dragon now walks and flies after you instead of teleporting. Scroll down to New in 1.2 – and to New in 1.1 for breeding, dragon eggs and 30 hybrids ↓

Skywyrms – ride elemental dragons
Six big elemental dragons you can tame, saddle, ride, fly – and breed. Each one has its own model, animations, voice and ability: fire, frost, lightning, venom, void and water. Cross them into 30 hybrids, hatch eggs and raise hatchlings.
For Fabric, NeoForge and Forge on Minecraft 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3.
Features
- 6 hand-made dragons, each with its own model, texture, glowing eyes and markings, and fully animated wings
- Real flight: take off, fly where you look, bank into turns, glide, sprint and power-dive
- A unique ability for every dragon, with its own particles, sounds and an energy ring above the hotbar
- Breeding: golden apples, dragon eggs that incubate (faster in the right surroundings) and hatchlings that grow up
- 30 hybrids with their own textures, combined abilities and the traits of both parents, plus inherited stats you can breed for
- New sounds: every dragon has its own voice, plus wing beats, steps, ability sounds, hatchling calls and cracking eggs
- Wild dragons live in fitting biomes, circle above their home and stay neutral until you hit them
- Tame, saddle and ride: only the owner can ride a tamed dragon
- A loyal companion: a tamed dragon walks after you, flies over when you are far away, keeps you company in the air and lands next to you – no teleporting
- Multiplayer ready: tested on dedicated servers with two players at once
- Simple config for natural spawning and block effects
The dragons
| Dragon | Where it lives | Ability (ability key) | Extra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ember Wyrm | badlands, savanna, desert, the Nether | Fire Breath (hold): a stream of fire that burns everything in front of it and can set blocks alight | immune to fire, rider gets Fire Resistance |
| Frost Wyrm | snowy and frozen biomes | Frost Breath (hold): freezes and slows targets, puts out fire, turns water to frosted ice | cannot freeze, neither can its rider |
| Storm Wyrm | mountains, hills, plains, meadows | Lightning Strike (press): a bolt where you look that jumps to up to three more targets | the fastest flyer |
| Thorn Wyrm | forests, jungles, taiga, swamps | Venom Spit (press): a glob of venom that leaves a poison cloud | the toughest, immune to poison |
| Void Wyrm | the End | Void Blink (press): teleports up to 37 blocks ahead and hits everything around the arrival point | strongest bite |
| Tide Wyrm | oceans, beaches, rivers | Tidal Jet (hold): a water jet with heavy knockback and extra damage to fire creatures | swims fast, breathes under water, rider gets Water Breathing |
Ember Wyrm – Fire Breath

Frost Wyrm – Frost Breath

Storm Wyrm – Lightning Strike

Thorn Wyrm – Venom Spit

Tide Wyrm – Tidal Jet

Void Wyrm – Void Blink

New in 1.2
- No more teleporting. A tamed dragon follows you on foot when you are close and on its wings when you are far away, up high, out of reach on foot or flying yourself (elytra, creative flight, another dragon). It lands next to you when you are back on the ground. Only when it gets stuck or is left far behind does it catch up – by appearing in the sky behind you, out of sight.
- Bigger dragons, bigger wings. All dragons are 15 % bigger, and every dragon and hybrid has a 30 % wider wingspan. The wings no longer show through the dragon's back in flight.
- Stronger abilities. Every ability reaches about a third further and wider: breath 20 blocks with a wider cone, Void Blink 37 blocks, bigger lightning chains, venom clouds and blink blasts.
- Power dive. Look steeply down while flying forward: your dragon folds its wings and keeps gaining speed – to well over twice its cruise speed, with rushing wind and air trails. Pull up and it swoops on with the momentum.
- Sprint. Hold the sprint key (Left Ctrl) and your dragon runs and flies 30 % faster.
- New ability ring. The energy is a ring of segments around the element icon; on a hybrid the ring and the icon mix both elements' colours.
- Banking. The dragon leans into sideways flight (A / D) and further into turns.
- Solid eggs. You no longer walk through dragon eggs – you bump into them (and can even stand on them).
- No slow falling. Jumping off in mid-air no longer gives you slow falling – mind the height.

New in 1.1: breeding

- Feed two tamed, grown-up dragons a golden apple each. Hearts appear and they walk over to each other.
- They lay a dragon egg beside them. The shell shows the body element, the spots the blood element.
- The egg hatches by itself after about 15 minutes, twice as fast in surroundings its elements like:
| Element | Hatches faster |
|---|---|
| Ember | near fire, lava or magma, or in the Nether |
| Frost | on snow or ice |
| Storm | under a thunderstorm, high up in the open, or next to a lightning rod |
| Thorn | among leaves or on moss |
| Void | in the End, or next to obsidian, end stone or end rods |
| Tide | under water |

- It wobbles and its cracks start to glow when it is close. Right-click it with an empty hand to pick it up and carry it somewhere warmer (genes, owner and progress go with it).
- Out comes a tamed hatchling that follows you, chirps and sneezes little puffs of its element. It grows up in about 40 minutes (meat speeds it up) and can be saddled once grown.
Right-click a dragon or an egg with a book to see its genes, stats, ability and traits.

Hybrids and genetics
Every dragon carries two elements. A hatchling gets one random element from each parent:
- Ember × Frost always gives a hybrid.
- Two Ember/Frost hybrids give about 25 % pure Ember, 50 % hybrids and 25 % pure Frost – Mendel's 1 : 2 : 1, so pure lines can be bred back.
The first element is the body (model, scales, main ability), the second the blood (wings, belly, eyes, glow). A Frostborn Ember Wyrm is a red Ember Wyrm with ice-blue wings.
| The blood adds… | to every hit of the ability | and the trait |
|---|---|---|
| Ember | sets on fire | immune to fire |
| Frost | freezes and slows | never freezes |
| Storm | a spark jumps to a nearby enemy | immune to lightning |
| Thorn | poisons | immune to poison |
| Void | weakens | immune to dragon's breath, levitation and weakness |
| Tide | knocks back, hurts fire creatures | breathes and swims under water |
A hybrid has the traits of both its elements. Pure blood is worth keeping too: +15 % ability power and faster energy regeneration.
Stats are inherited like in real breeding: health, speed and power around 100 %. A hatchling gets the mean of its parents plus a small random deviation, so you can select better dragons over generations. The first cross of two purebreds of different kinds gets +5 % hybrid vigour (not passed on, like real heterosis). Where two kinds share a biome, a wild hybrid turns up now and then.

Taming and riding
- Feed it meat (any raw or cooked meat; the Tide Wyrm also takes fish). Each piece has a 1 in 3 chance to tame it. Hearts mean it worked.
- Right-click with a saddle to saddle it (shears take the saddle off again).
- Right-click with an empty hand to climb on.
- Sneak + right-click tells it to stay or follow. Meat heals a tamed dragon.
| Control | Key (Options → Controls → Skywyrms) |
|---|---|
| Steer | look around, W A S D |
| Take off / fly up | Space |
| Fly down | X |
| Faster (30 %) | hold Sprint (Left Ctrl) |
| Power dive | look steeply down and hold W |
| Ability | R (hold for breath abilities) |
| Dismount | Left Shift |
In the air the dragon flies where you look and leans into turns and sideways flight. Look steeply down and it goes into a power dive: it folds its wings and keeps speeding up, to well over twice its cruise speed; pull up and it swoops on with that momentum for a while. Land by flying down onto the ground. The ring above the hotbar shows the ability's energy around the element icon (on a hybrid the ring and the icon mix both elements); it refills by itself. Careful: if you jump off in mid-air you fall – a riderless dragon comes down after you.

Every dragon also has a spawn egg (creative tab Skywyrms, next to the six real dragon eggs) and can be summoned with /summon skywyrms:ember_wyrm (or frost_wyrm, storm_wyrm, thorn_wyrm, void_wyrm, tide_wyrm). A hybrid: /summon skywyrms:ember_wyrm ~ ~ ~ {Genes:{Blood:"frost"}}.

Credits
Models, textures, animations, particles and code were made for this mod. The dragons' voices are Minecraft's own creature sounds, re-pitched and mixed differently for each dragon; wing beats, steps, ability sounds and the eggs are synthesised for the mod.
