✨ Elemental Motes

Meet the small, cheerful elemental creatures drifting freely through your Minecraft world! Naturally curious and neutral, these little motes will happily float over to observe you without causing any harm unless you strike them first. If provoked, they will retaliate with a magical bolt of their own element!

Requires GeckoLib. Available for NeoForge 1.21.1.

🧚 How do the motes work?

  • Variety: They come in 5 elements (fire, water, earth, air, and aether) and 4 sizes (tiny, normal, big, and giant). Larger motes have more health, hit harder, but leave behind much better drops. Spawn eggs for every kind and size are available in the creative tab.

  • Elemental Reactions: Hit a mote with its own element, and it will heal and grow for a minute! Hitting it with its opposing element (fire vs. water, earth vs. air) deals double damage. Aether is unique and has no opposite.

  • Behavior: Two opposing motes that drift too close to one another will weaken each other. When a mote is at low health, it will try to flee from danger.

  • Habitats: They spawn right where you would expect them to:

    • 🔥 Fire: In hot lands and at noon.

    • 💧 Water: In rivers, oceans, swamps, during rain, and at dusk.

    • 🪨 Earth: Deep underground in caves.

    • 🌪️ Air: High up in the sky, at dawn, and during thunderstorms.

    • ✨ Aether: Only at night, next to amethyst geodes, or in the top 64 blocks of the world.

🛠️ What can you craft?

Defeated motes leave behind Sparks of their element (larger motes drop more) and, rarely, a Mote Core. You can use these to craft unique magical items:

  • Mote Charm (Mote Core + Spark) Allows you to summon an immortal companion mote that follows you around! Use the charm again to dismiss it. Each element grants a different passive ability:

    • 🔥 Fire: Ignites nearby monsters.

    • 💧 Water: Grants Water Breathing.

    • 🪨 Earth: Grants Haste.

    • 🌪️ Air: Grants Slow Falling.

    • ✨ Aether: Pulls dropped items towards you like a magnet.

  • Elemental Lantern (Mote Core + Spark + Glass) A beautiful, small light source with elemental particles and hidden powers:

    • 🔥 Fire: Prevents undead (zombies, skeletons) from spawning nearby.

    • 🌪️ Air: Keeps creepers and phantoms away.

    • 💧 Water: Keeps nearby farmland perfectly moist.

    • 🪨 Earth: Nudges nearby crops to grow faster.

    • ✨ Aether: Shines with the brightest light.

📖 Mote Field Guide: An in-game book (available in the creative tab in both English and Polish) featuring dedicated pages for everything, including tooltips and advancements.

⚙️ Configuration & Compatibility

Everything can be tweaked to your liking in the mod list config screen (or via elemental_motes-server.toml / elemental_motes-client.toml). You can adjust health, bolt damage, drop chances, spawn caps, charm passives, lantern effects and radius, and even the amount of ambient particles.

Works perfectly with (all optional):

  • Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks: The magic schools count as elemental hits against motes!

  • Curios API: Charms fit perfectly into the charm slot, keeping your companion by your side.

  • Sodium Dynamic Lights: Fire/aether motes, companions, charms, and lanterns emit dynamic light.

  • Jade / WTHIT / The One Probe: Displays the mote's size, companion status, and active lantern effects.

  • JEI / EMI: Provides dedicated info pages for the items.

  • Quintessence: Base element spells from Quintessence will heal/hurt the motes. If both mods are loaded, natural spawning of this mod is turned off by default (can be changed in settings).

  • Modpack Creators: Full support for Datapacks, KubeJS, and CraftTweaker (biomes, damage types, lantern repelling targets, and item groups are all handled via tags and ordinary recipes).
