Description

Enchanting Revised

This mod was born from a dislike of the vanilla enchanting table and its RNG and XP cost. It aims to replace it with a new system that provides a sense of progression while still maintaining a vanilla feel.

This mod is heavily customisable and every feature can be enabled or disabled in the configs.

Enchanting Altar

The Enchanting Altar replaces the vanilla enchanting table and allows you to craft the enchantments you want using ingredients. No more RNG or XP costs.

Each recipe costs a number of lapis as well as up to two other ingredients, the more powerful the enchantment, the rarer the ingredients required. More powerful enchantments will also require bookshelves near the altar just like a vanilla enchanting table.

Using the Enchanting Altar

Crafting the Enchanting Altar is easy, allowing you to get started with low level enchantments from the start of the game and slowly improve them as you find the needed ingredients.

Villager Trading

Sick of rerolling librarians over and over to try and get the enchantments you want? This mod replaces that system completely. Librarians no longer sell enchanted books, instead they sell a new Echoing Book which can be combined with an enchanted book in an anvil to duplicate it.

Craft the book you want with the Enchanted Altar then use Echoing Books to make all the copies you need.

Death to XP

Minecraft XP is weird. Since it's no longer used for enchanting, why not get rid of it completely? This mod does just that: XP requirements have been removed from all systems, XP orbs will no longer drop, and bottles o' enchanting are gone.

Mending and Repairing tools

Since XP is gone, the Mending enchantment has been changed to be a slow repair-over-time effect. It's a late game enchantment that will help maintain your tools but it won't be enough to keep them repaired on its own.

The main way you repair now is with the anvil. It no longer has an XP cost and there is no longer a maximum number of repairs. Netherite items can now be repaired with diamonds.

Misc

In addition to the major features above, there are a few balance tweaks:

  • Combining enchanted books of the same level in the anvil will no longer give a higher level book. This change was needed because the Enchanting Altar makes low level enchantments easy to get and high level enchantments hard to get, so being able to combine them in the anvil was too powerful.
  • The Enchanting Altar consumes a lot of lapis, so to help with that librarians can now sell it.
  • Since XP is gone, this mod also removes the XP bar from the UI.

FAQ

Can I include Enchanting Revised in my modpack?
Yep!

Is this mod server-side or client-side?
You will need it on both server and client.

Will this work with <other mod>
Compatibility with JEI is built in.
The Enchanting Atlar only has recipes for vanilla enchantments but recipes for modded enchantments can easily be added with a datapack.
By default, this mod removes the vanilla enchanting table, if you need it for another mod you can turn it back on in the config.
You can turn XP back on if you need it for other mods too.
