Description

Epic Fight Auto Compat

What does it do?

Added a weapon mod, picked up a sword, and it still doesn’t have an Epic Fight moveset? That’s what this is for. Epic Fight Auto Compat checks your melee weapons and gives supported ones a suitable base Epic Fight moveset when they still need one.

You’re still using the same weapon from the same mod. You don’t have to go through every item and set it up yourself, and weapons with their own Epic Fight support are left alone.

Epic Fight already supports plenty of weapons on its own too. This is meant to fill in missing support, not take credit for weapons that already worked.

Weapon support

The automatic rules cover swords, longswords, greatswords, daggers, spears, axes, uchigatanas, and tachis when the item has enough matching weapon information. Things like a claymore or knife can fit one of those categories too.

It looks at the item’s registered information, weapon class, and tags. A name by itself isn’t enough. Renaming an item at an anvil won’t turn it into a different weapon type, and giving something high damage doesn’t automatically make it a greatsword.

Settings & customization

Leave automatic compatibility on for the normal setup, or turn it off and handle assignments yourself. You can set an item rule, exclude an item or an entire mod, choose category preferences, inspect the weapon you’re holding, and see which presets are available.

Open the mod’s configuration screen through the Mods menu. Join a world first to see that world’s settings. In multiplayer, changes are controlled by the server and need administrator permission; the menu can be read-only for other players.

What about addon movesets?

This version assigns the reusable base Epic Fight presets. It does not automatically take a special moveset from an addon and put it on every other weapon. Discovering an addon preset isn’t the same as being able to safely reuse it.

Weapons that already have their own addon compatibility keep it. That’s different from copying their moveset onto something else.

Installation

This 1.0.0 build is for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.248 or newer within the 21.1 series, and Epic Fight 21.17.3.1. The supplied file requires that exact Epic Fight version.

Put the Auto Compat JAR in your profile’s mods folder alongside the required mods, then launch that NeoForge profile. For multiplayer, install the same build on the server and every client. Mod Menu (NeoForge Edition) is optional for this mod, not a required dependency.

FAQ

Does this work with every weapon?
Not every weapon. It needs enough information to recognize a supported melee type. Unusual weapons, special-use items, or conflicting information can be left unchanged instead of getting a random moveset.

Will it replace compatibility I already have?
Authored compatibility is preserved. Useful Epic Fight fallbacks are kept by default too. There’s a setting for those fallbacks, but it isn’t a blanket override for another mod’s own compatibility.

Can I see why a weapon was skipped?
Yes. Inspect the held item from the settings screen or use /efautocompat inspect. The result can tell you whether it was mapped, already worked, was preserved, was excluded, or needs review.

Can I choose a moveset myself?
There are manual item rules and category preferences. They still need an available reusable preset, and an explicit exclusion takes priority. It won’t force an unsafe override just because a preset name was entered.

Support / bug reports

Found a weapon that isn’t getting picked up, or one that gets a moveset that doesn’t fit? Leave a comment with the mod name and item ID, your Minecraft, NeoForge, Epic Fight, and Auto Compat versions, and what happened. The inspection result helps too.

A clip is useful when the problem only shows up during an attack. Say whether you’re playing singleplayer or on a server. For crashes, include the relevant report after checking it for personal information.

Credits

Credit to the Epic Fight team for the combat system and the movesets this mod uses, and to the weapon mod creators for their weapons. This mod helps connect supported items to those movesets; it isn’t a new animation pack.

That’s about it. Pick up your weapons, try them out, and let me know when something needs another look.
