Epic Fight Awaken Health Fix
No reviews yet
Fixes a client-side crash in Epic Fight Awaken (1.2.7.2) where the Vacuum Slice projectile's null health-bar texture throws a NullPointerException in Epic Fight's renderer, by substituting a safe fallback texture instead of crashing.

Description
Awaken Health Bar Fix
A tiny, focused patch for a client crash introduced in Epic Fight Awaken 1.2.7.2.
The problem
Epic Fight Awaken 1.2.7.2 changed EFAFaction.EFA_NO_ALIVE (the faction used by the Vacuum Slice airslash projectile entity) to build its health-bar texture with a null ResourceLocation. Epic Fight Awaken 1.2.6 shipped a real texture here — this is a regression, not intended behavior.
When Epic Fight tries to draw a health bar over that entity, the null texture reaches EpicFightRenderTypes.entityUITexture(ResourceLocation), which feeds it straight into ConcurrentHashMap.computeIfAbsent(null, ...). ConcurrentHashMap throws a NullPointerException on a null key, which crashes the game the instant that entity is rendered:
java.lang.NullPointerException: Rendering entity in world
at java.util.concurrent.ConcurrentHashMap.computeIfAbsent(...)
at yesman.epicfight.client.renderer.EpicFightRenderTypes.entityUITexture(...)
at yesman.epicfight.client.gui.EntityUI.drawUIAsLevelModel(...)
at yesman.epicfight.client.gui.HealthBar.draw(...)
Practically, this means any player who triggers Vacuum Slice (or has one on-screen) crashes to desktop.
The fix
A single Mixin on EpicFightRenderTypes intercepts entityUITexture and substitutes a safe fallback texture (minecraft:textures/gui/icons.png) whenever the incoming ResourceLocation is null, before it ever reaches the ConcurrentHashMap:
- No more crash — the entity renders with a generic fallback icon instead of a broken health bar.
- The fix is generic: it guards the shared Epic Fight rendering path itself, so it also protects against any other mod or mob-patch that forgets to supply a health-bar texture, not just this one Awaken regression.
- Purely defensive — it changes nothing for any entity that already has a valid texture.
Compatibility
- Client-side only. Safe to leave on servers/dedicated packs; it simply does nothing there.
- Works alongside any version of Epic Fight Awaken. If a future Awaken release fixes the null texture upstream, this mod becomes a no-op — it never triggers unless it sees a null texture.
- No config, no commands, no other footprint.
Requirements
- Epic Fight (20.0+)
- Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge
- Epic Fight awaken
Installation
Drop the jar in your mods folder alongside Epic Fight and Epic Fight Awaken. That's it — no configuration needed.
Credits
Diagnosed from a live crash report (ConcurrentHashMap.computeIfAbsent NPE on epicfight_awaken:vacuum_slice) and fixed via Mixin.
