Grant per-player titles. Admins hand them out, players pick one to wear, and it shows above their head, in chat and in the tab list.

About
Description
Features
- Several titles per player. Grant as many as you like; the player decides which one to wear.
- Players pick their own. A picker screen, opened from a small icon in the inventory, shows every title you own next to a preview of your character that turns to follow the mouse.
- Shown in three places at once. The overhead nameplate, chat and the tab list stay in sync.
- Colour codes. Custom titles understand
&codes, so&6MVPrenders gold. - A built-in "Newcomer" title — green, and granted automatically the first time a player joins.
- Server-authoritative. The server checks that a player owns a title before equipping it, so a modified client cannot wear something it was never granted.
- Stored in the world save, so both the titles and the worn choice survive a restart.
- Shipped in English and Chinese (
en_us,zh_cn).
Commands
Everything under /epithet needs permission level 2 (operator).
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/epithet <player> add <title> |
Grant a title. Custom titles may contain spaces. |
/epithet <player> remove <title> |
Revoke a title; if it was being worn, it is un-worn as well. |
/epithet <player> list |
Show every title a player owns. |
/epithet <player> get |
Show the title a player is currently wearing. |
The picker
Open your inventory and click the small icon at the top of the player preview. Survival and creative inventories both get it.
- The large preview rotates as you move the mouse.
- Your currently worn title is outlined; clicking another one previews it straight away.
- Confirm sends the choice to the server. Cancel or Esc goes back to the inventory without changing anything.
The self-nametag toggle
Vanilla never draws your own nameplate in third person. The square button in the top-right of the picker turns it on and off. It is a per-install client setting, remembered between launches.
Configuration
config/epithet-common.toml
| Key | Default | Meaning |

config/epithet-client.toml

Draw your own nameplate in third person. Toggled by the button described above. |
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
- NeoForge 21.1.x
Epithet has to be installed on both the server and the client: the server owns the titles (commands, storage, and the chat and tab-list prefixes), while the client draws the nameplate and hosts the picker.
Built-in titles
| Title | Notes |
|---|---|
#none |
Wear nothing. Always available, and never needs to be granted. |
#newbie |
Green "Newcomer". Granted automatically on first join, and can be revoked like any other title. |
Any other id is a custom title: the text you type is the title, colour codes and all.
