ERROR 404: The Missing Entity

A signal was lost in your world. Something found it.

ERROR 404 is a psychological survival-horror mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge). It does not try to kill you every ten seconds — it waits. It watches. And when you have almost forgotten about it, the file goes missing again.

The Haunted Main Menu

The horror starts before you even load a world:

• A desolate night desert panorama with two tall silhouettes watching you from the dunes

• A cracked, blood-red MINECRAFT logo and a red HORROR EDITION banner

• Dark obsidian menu buttons with blood-red borders and red labels

• 48 horror splash texts — "HE IS WATCHING YOU...", "IT IS STILL HERE.", "DO NOT SLEEP"...

• A looping 96-second original horror menu theme — layered sub-bass drones, distant bells, a slow heartbeat and whispers that never resolve

• Quiet scare cues (a creak, a breath, a whisper) while you linger on the title screen

The Entity

A server-authoritative stalking entity with a tall original model, dim emissive eyes and procedural limb animation. It watches, approaches, chases and retreats. It can teleport when seen, turn temporarily invisible, and it remembers you. Every encounter opens with a swelling tension cue — and ends in a 45-tick fragmenting death animation if you survive it.

Random Horror Events

Roughly every minute and a half, one of the mod's events can strike: SIGNAL LOST (dark static), WORLD CORRUPTION (reversible glitched blocks), DO NOT LOOK (hold its gaze at your peril), CONNECTION TERMINATED, FILE MISSING, ENTITY DETECTED, SYSTEM FAILURE (your torches go dark) and BACKUP FOUND — plus new audio events: DISTANT BANG, CREAK, CLOSE BREATH and TENSION RISER (plays as every encounter begins). Every event can also be triggered manually with /error404 event <name>.

Craft Your Defense

Ten original items — Error Fragments, Corrupted Data Chips, Static Crystals, the Signal Detector, Error Lens, Corrupted Sword, Error Charm, Forbidden Key, Root Token and the Music Disc "404.wav" — plus seven blocks and two rare worldgen structures (the Abandoned Server Room and the Glitched Cabin) with lore, loot and locked caches. Brave the Forbidden Altar ritual to summon the enhanced four-phase encounter.

Reversible World Corruption

The world corruption journal saves every block it touches and compares against your own changes when it restores — it never overwrites anything you built while the glitch was active.

Accessibility and Config

Jumpscare intensity, menu music, dread ambience, HUD grain, scanlines, shake, fog and heartbeat are all individually configurable (client: config/error404-client.toml, server: <world>/serverconfig/error404-server.toml). Set jumpscare intensity to 0 to keep the atmosphere without the scares.

• All textures, models, sounds and structures are original, deterministic generated assets — no Mojang assets are redistributed. All 15 audio tracks (including the new menu theme and scare sounds added in 1.3.0) are original synthesized compositions
