Extended Potions
Ever wanted potions to make an actual difference?
What is this mod?
Brewing in vanilla Minecraft hits a wall almost immediately. One Redstone Dust or one Glowstone Dust, and that's it — your potion is done cooking, forever. Extended Potions knocks that wall down and lets you keep going.
Redstone and Glowstone can now be applied up to 5 times per potion on ten of the most useful potions in the game: Speed, Strength, Jump Boost, Regeneration, Instant Health, Fire Resistance, Slow Falling, Water Breathing, Night Vision and Invisibility. Stack them, mix them, push them to absurd lengths — and if you're feeling cruel, corrupt the whole thing with a Fermented Spider Eye and hand your "gift" to someone else.
How It Works
🧪 Stacking Redstone and Glowstone
Every applicable potion has a 5-modifier limit — but what you're allowed to put in those slots depends on the potion:
- Speed, Strength, Jump Boost, Regeneration — accept either Redstone or Glowstone, in any mix, up to 5 total.
- Instant Health — accepts Glowstone only, up to 5 times. Since Instant Health has no duration to begin with, only the +1 amplifier per application applies — stack all 5 on top of the base potion and you've got Instant Health VI.
- Fire Resistance, Slow Falling, Water Breathing, Night Vision, Invisibility — accept Redstone only, up to 5 times.
The brewing stand doesn't care about your commitment issues, as long as you're offering the right dust.
Each addition recalculates the duration based on the potion's current duration — not the base — so effects compound with every dust you throw in. Amplifier increases from Glowstone stack too, on top of whatever duration math is happening, wherever duration applies.
📐 The Formulas
Let x = current duration, y = new duration after one application:
| Modifier | Applies To | Formula |
|---|---|---|
| Redstone | All potions except Regeneration | y = (x / 3) * 8 |
| Redstone | Regeneration only | y = 2x |
| Glowstone | All potions | y = x / 2, and +1 amplifier |
Because these formulas run off the current duration each time, not the original base, stacking Redstone repeatedly compounds the extension rather than just multiplying the base once. Five Redstones in a row is not five times the base duration. It's much, much more.
☠️ Corruption
Speed, Strength, Jump Boost, Regeneration and Instant Health can be corrupted with a Fermented Spider Eye, turning them into their evil twins:
| Original | Becomes |
|---|---|
| Speed | Slowness |
| Strength | Weakness |
| Jump Boost | Slowness |
| Regeneration | Poison |
| Instant Health | Instant Damage |
Corruption can happen at any point in the modifier chain — before any Redstone or Glowstone has been added, in the middle, or after all 5 slots are filled. The moment the Fermented Spider Eye goes in, though, the potion's potency and duration are locked. Applied 3 modifiers and then corrupted it? Those last 2 slots are gone. No adding Redstone to a Splash Potion of Weakness after the fact. Plan your betrayals accordingly.
💰 Naturally Generated Potions
Loot chests don't reset the counter. A potion found in a dungeon, ancient city, or trial chamber that's already been extended or enhanced can still be pushed up to its own 5-modifier limit — meaning some of the most absurdly overtuned potions in the game are just sitting in chests, waiting to be topped off. Keep an eye out.
