Description

Falling Meteors

Meteors periodically fall from the sky, bringing three different kinds of alien material to build tools, armor, and machines around. Watch the horizon, get to a crash site before the ore cools, and decide whether to mine it, shield your base from the next impact, or summon one yourself.

This is a community port of the original Falling Meteors mod (originally built for Minecraft 1.7.10) to Minecraft 1.12.2 / Forge.

Credits & Rights

All original credit belongs to the original creators of Falling Meteors:

  • AlexDGr8r — original mod design and code (Minecraft 1.7.10)
  • Firecat1311 and SLuRsniper24 — additional textures

This port exists purely so more people can enjoy an old, well-loved mod that was never updated past 1.7.10. No ownership over the original concept, art, or design is claimed. All rights to the original work remain with its creators. If you are the original author (or represent them) and would like this listing changed, credited differently, or taken down, please reach out — it will be honored immediately.

This is an unofficial, fan-made continuation, built independently for personal use and shared here so others don't lose access to the mod.

What's in the port

Three meteor materials, each with a full tool and armor set:

  • Meteorite — the common, balanced material
  • Frezarite — freezes things it touches, mines faster underwater
  • Kreknorite — fire-resistant armor set, opens a portal to its own dimension

Meteor Shield — a placeable block that charges over time, upgrades through 5 levels with Red Meteor Gems, and can intercept incoming comets before they hit your base.

Meteor Timer — counts down to the next meteor fall in real time.

The Freezer — a machine that turns items and fluids into their frozen counterparts (ice, packed ice, slippery variants of almost any full block).

Three detectors — proximity, time, and crash detectors that glow and vibrate in hand when something is near.

Slippery blocks — freeze nearly any vanilla or modded block into an ice-slick, stair-compatible facade.

Two custom enchantments — Magnetization (pull nearby drops toward you) and Cold Touch (freeze water as you walk or sprint).

Meteor Summoner — craft one to call down a meteor of your choosing on demand.

Comet Kitty & Alien Creeper — new mobs that ride in on comets and meteors.

Achievements — a full advancement tree tracking your progress through the mod, from your first meteor chip to a maxed-out shield.

Ore generation, a Kreknorite Nether portal, ambient particles, and custom sound effects for meteor impacts and the Shield.

Compatibility

Falling Meteors detects the following mods if installed and adds extra integration — none of them are required, the mod works fully on its own:

  • JEI (Just Enough Items) — every Freezer recipe is browsable, plus recipe lookups for all tools and armor.
  • Hwyla / WAILA — look-at tooltips for the Shield (charge, range, owner), Timer, and meteor blocks (temperature).
  • Baubles — a craftable Magnetization Controller accessory with a toggle keybind, for players who want the magnet effect without wearing Meteorite gear.
  • Thaumcraft — every material, block, and the mod's mobs are tagged with aspects and scannable with a thaumometer.

Known issues / roadmap

  • A handful of purely cosmetic details from the original mod (block placement orientation, a couple of chat messages) were not carried over — nothing that affects gameplay.
  • Planned: continued small updates and bug fixes based on player feedback.
  • Long-term idea: porting further to newer Minecraft versions, time and interest permitting.
