Description
Fast Leaf Decay
Chop a tree and the floating crown is cleared away in a few seconds instead of minutes.
Nothing for players to install: put it on the server and everyone benefits. No operator rights needed.
How it works
| Break a log | The datapack notices it and, for a few seconds, sweeps the area around you every half second |
| Which leaves | Only leaves that Vanilla would let decay anyway (no log within reach, not placed by a player) |
| Drops | Leaves are removed in "destroy" mode, so they drop items like decaying leaves (saplings, sticks, apples) |
| Placed leaves | Hedges and decorations you built stay where they are |
| Other causes | A slow background sweep every 30 seconds also clears crowns left by TNT, pistons or other tools |
Every leaf type of the game version is covered (11 types on 26.1 to 26.2, 14 types including the three poplar types on 26.3).
Settings
/scoreboard players set #enabled flr_cfg 1 fast leaf decay (default)
/scoreboard players set #enabled flr_cfg 0 vanilla leaf decay
Installation
Data pack (ZIP): put the ZIP into <world>/datapacks/ on your server (or single-player world) and run /reload. It works on a world you already play.
Optional mod files: the same pack is also offered as a Fabric mod (26.1 to 26.3, needs the Fabric API) and as a NeoForge mod (26.3 only). Use one of them instead of the ZIP, not together with it.
Made for Minecraft 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3.
What was tested, and what was not
Tested on real dedicated servers of each listed version, against the same server without the pack:
- Leaves without a log nearby are removed, leaf types all clear.
- Leaves you placed yourself stay.
- Leaves that still touch a log stay.
- Items drop from the removed leaves.
- The on/off switch works.
- The Fabric file passed the same test on 26.1 to 26.3, the NeoForge file on 26.3.
Not measured yet, so no promise is made:
- The exact time from the last log to a clear crown, and how tall a crown the sweep reaches.
- Server load compared with other leaf decay packs.
- Drop chances compared with Vanilla (items drop, the rates were not compared).
- The test was run without a player; the log-mining trigger itself was checked in a screenshot scene, not with a long play session.
Known limits:
- On 26.3, the fast trigger after breaking a poplar log works in the ZIP only. In the Fabric and NeoForge files poplar crowns still clear, but only with the slow 30 second sweep.
- The NeoForge file is listed for 26.3 only, because that is the only version it was run on.
- The pack only touches leaves in a box around each player (15 blocks to each side, 4 blocks down, 27 blocks up), so crowns far from every player are cleared only when someone comes near.
Changelog
1.0.0
- First release for Minecraft 26.1 to 26.3 (data pack, Fabric mod, NeoForge mod for 26.3).
