Field

JOIN OUR DISCORD

A vanilla-friendly worldgen mod that adds large, handcrafted farm fields to plains biomes. Complete with access roads, fences, and irrigation ditches, these structures seamlessly blend into the landscape to make the overworld feel truly inhabited.

Install on the server. Client installation is optional (vanilla clients can join and explore the generated fields seamlessly). Singleplayer note: Works perfectly in singleplayer. Just install it normally in your mods folder.

Please report any bugs, errors, or feature suggestions on Discord: https://discord.gg/4XUPywnEyE

What it does:

  • Spawns 8 terrain-aware field variants, adapting to sloped grounds, riverbanks, and flat terrain.
  • Cultivates a single crop type per field to create a realistic, unified agricultural look.
  • Surrounds crops with immersive details like wheel ruts, dirt piles, and meadow transitions.
  • Adds zero custom blocks or items — pure vanilla worldgen that works right out of the box.

Field variants included:

  • Plains row fields
  • Terrace fields
  • Lowland fields with irrigation channels
  • Riverbank fields
  • Village-edge farm plots
  • Abandoned fields (overgrown, with dead bushes)
  • Pumpkin fields
  • Melon fields

Crop families used by cultivated areas:

  • Potatoes
  • Carrots
  • Wheat
  • Beetroots
  • Pumpkins
  • Melons

Compatibility:

  • Works alongside vanilla villages and other structure mods — fields use their own structure set and biome tag, so they do not conflict with any other.
  • Safe to add to an existing world: fields only generate in newly explored chunks, so previously visited terrain is untouched.
  • Removing the mod from a world is safe — already-generated fields remain as ordinary blocks; only future generation stops.

Tuning for modpack authors: The mod ships its worldgen as a regular Minecraft datapack inside the jar, so anything you can tweak in a datapack you can override with your own datapack at higher priority:

  • Spawn frequencydata/fields/worldgen/structure_set/fields.json (spacing, separation, salt).
  • Allowed biomesdata/fields/tags/worldgen/biome/field_biomes.json. Default is conservative (plains family). Add minecraft:meadow, minecraft:sunflower_plains, etc. for wider coverage.
  • Variant weightsdata/fields/worldgen/template_pool/field/start.json. Higher weight = that variant is picked more often. Good place to tone down abandoned fields or emphasize pumpkin fields.
  • Structure placement behaviordata/fields/worldgen/structure/field.json (terrain_adaptation, project_start_to_heightmap, spawn_overrides).
