Description
🏝️ Floating Islands - Bring Back the Classic World Generation!
Floating Islands is a mod that restores the beloved floating island terrain generation that was removed from Minecraft in version 1.18. Explore a brand new dimension filled with majestic islands floating in the void, just like the old days!
🌟 Features
🏔️ Classic Floating Islands Dimension
- A completely new dimension filled with naturally generated floating islands
- Terrain generation inspired by the classic floating islands that existed before the Caves & Cliffs update
- Each island is unique, with varied terrain, caves, and resources
- Perfect for survival challenges, creative building, or exploration
🌀 Custom Portal System
- Build your portal just like a Nether portal, but using Stone blocks instead of Obsidian
- Light it with a Flint & Steel — the familiar experience you already know
- Portal behavior is identical to vanilla Nether portals:
- Stand in the portal and wait for the teleportation timer
- Survival mode: 80 ticks (4 seconds) cooldown
- Creative mode: 1 tick cooldown
- Respects the
playersNetherPortalDefaultDelayandplayersNetherPortalCreativeDelaygame rules
- Beautiful blue portal texture
🔗 Smart Portal Linking
- Portals are automatically linked in pairs — entering a portal always takes you back to the same portal you came from
- Portal links are saved persistently and survive server restarts
- If a linked portal is destroyed, a new one will be automatically created when you teleport
- The mod searches for existing portals within 128 blocks before creating a new one — no duplicate portals!
🐄 Entity Support
- Not just players! All entities can pass through the portal:
- Mobs, animals, and hostile creatures
- Items, minecarts, boats
- Any entity that can enter a vanilla Nether portal
🌍 Coordinate Scaling
- Uses a 10:1 coordinate scale between the Overworld and the Floating Islands dimension (same as the Nether)
- Travel 10 blocks in the Overworld = arrive 1 block away in the Floating Islands
- This makes it easy to find your way back home
🎨 Custom Visual Effects
- blue portal texture using vanilla rendering with custom color tinting
- Portal blocks emit light (level 11) to illuminate the area around them
🌐 Multi-Language Support
The mod includes translations for 6 languages:
- 🇨🇳 Simplified Chinese (简体中文)
- 🇹🇼 Traditional Chinese (繁體中文)
- 🇬🇧 English
- 🇯🇵 Japanese (日本語)
- 🇷🇺 Russian (Русский)
- 🇫🇷 French (Français)
📖 How to Use
Building a Portal
- Gather Stone blocks (at least 10 for a minimum 2×3 portal)
- Build a rectangular frame — just like a Nether portal but with Stone
- Use a Flint & Steel on any stone block adjacent to the air inside the frame
- The portal will ignite and activate!
Entering the Portal
- Simply walk into the portal and wait
- In Survival mode, you'll need to stand still for 4 seconds
- In Creative mode, teleportation is nearly instant
- You'll be transported to the Floating Islands dimension!
Returning Home
- Build another portal in the Floating Islands dimension, or
- Step back into the same portal you arrived through — it works both ways!

💡 Tips
- Bring building materials — the Floating Islands dimension is scattered with floating terrain, so bridging between islands is essential
- Mark your portals — while portal links are persistent, it's easy to lose track of which portal goes where
- Coordinate scaling works both ways — if you build a portal at X=100, Z=100 in the Overworld, you'll arrive at approximately X=10, Z=10 in the Floating Islands
- Portals auto-generate — if you enter a portal and there's no matching portal on the other side, one will be created for you automatically
- Existing portals are reused — the mod searches within 128 blocks for existing portals before creating new ones, so you won't end up with dozens of portals cluttering the landscape
🤝 Credits
- Inspired by Minecraft's classic floating island terrain generation (Beta 1.8 - 1.17)
⚠️ Compatibility
- Compatible with most Fabric mods
- Requires Fabric API and Fabric Loader
- Server-side: The mod works on servers — only the server needs the mod installed for portal teleportation to function
