About
Description
The purpose of this datapack is to make food more useful so that players eat more than just steaks and golden carrots.
Main features:
- Players gain additional effects when consuming food or water
- Effects are divided between several food types
- Non-stackable foods give long-lasting effects, stackable foods give short and weak effects
Starting with Food Update 2.0, the default datapack ignores items with custom_model_data or custom_data to avoid preventing you from creating new food using datapacks.
Huge update for 1.21.2+
Food Update 2.0 is here!
Don't agree with the balance? Create your own! A brand new preset system allows you to customize the effects of dozens of items in a single file. Minimum requirements to get started! You can even create an addon to easily share and manage presets you've written. Would you like to know more?
Are you a food datapack creator? Use Food Update presets as a handy tool! Customize effects of custom food in a single file.
Playing with mods? I'm not sure it's the best option, but Food Update doesn't have any restrictions on modded food. At least as far as Minecraft advancements allow.
Other recommendations
Food Update isn't balanced for vanilla potions, but I believe this datapack makes gameplay a little deeper. You can also download "Amplified Potion Effects" datapack (1.20.5+) to enhance vanilla potions.
If you've created an add-on for Food Update, please contact me so I can add a link to it. Please do not distribute add-ons as Food Updates with modified presets to avoid compatibility issues.
Can I use this data pack with custom food?
The default datapack is configured to not give effects for consuming custom food. However, you can add it to a preset yourself by following the wiki and configure unique effects distinct from the base item.
