Description

Adaptive Mobs

Adaptive Mobs is a server-side Forge mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that makes vanilla hostile mobs grow stronger and smarter as your world progresses.

Instead of adding new mobs, models, items, or dimensions, Adaptive Mobs upgrades the enemies you already know. As days pass and players defeat more hostile mobs, the world advances through adaptive tiers from vanilla behavior up to late-game pressure. Hostile mobs can gain better stats, improved vanilla equipment, smarter movement, group tactics, and situational responses to common player strategies.

Features

  • Progression-based difficulty tiers from 0 to 5
  • Scaling based on world day and hostile mob kills
  • Extra per-mob-type progression for enemies players farm repeatedly
  • Health, damage, follow range, armor, knockback resistance, and small speed scaling
  • Vanilla-only gear upgrades for eligible mobs
  • Capped spawn pressure that can add extra vanilla mobs naturally
  • Lightweight tactical AI for many hostile mobs
  • Smarter positioning for melee, ranged, and airborne enemies
  • Group pressure, target priority, threat memory, sound investigation, support behavior, and anti-cheese movement
  • Fully server-side gameplay changes
  • Configurable Forge common config
  • No new mobs, models, items, assets, or client-side requirements

Smarter Hostile Mobs

Zombies can pressure pillars and simple wall setups. Skeletons and pillagers reposition instead of staring at blocked shots. Creepers may flank instead of walking straight across open ground. Spiders can lunge, retreat, and use elevated angles. Witches support allies and keep spacing. Airborne mobs like ghasts, blazes, phantoms, and vexes can reposition around targets and predict movement at higher tiers.

Commands

  • /adaptivemobs get - Shows the current global tier, world day, total hostile kills, and whether a manual tier override is active.
  • /adaptivemobs setglobaltier <0-5> - Manually locks the world to a specific adaptive tier from vanilla behavior at 0 to maximum pressure at 5.
  • /adaptivemobs reset - Clears saved progression data and removes any manual global tier override.
  • /adaptivemobs debug - Prints the current Adaptive Mobs config and runtime state for troubleshooting.

Difficulty Disclaimer

Adaptive Mobs is designed to make hostile mobs scale into serious late-game threats. At the highest adaptation tier, the mod can feel intentionally harsh and may become unfair in a mostly vanilla setup, especially if players do not have access to additional weapons, armor, enchantments, abilities, or other mods that increase player power. For a more balanced experience, adjust the config values or combine Adaptive Mobs with progression, combat, or equipment mods that let players scale alongside the mobs.
