Frostfang

Frostfang is a legendary ice sword inspired by the weapons of the Unstable SMP. It begins as a simple frost-touched blade and grows stronger with every kill, evolving through three stages until it reaches its final form, Absolute Zero.

Abilities

Deep Chill. Every hit freezes the target. Frozen mobs shiver and slow down, and frozen players see frost across their screen. Each hit also applies Slowness, which grows stronger as the sword evolves. Repeated hits keep the target frozen.

Frost Nova. Right-clicking releases an expanding ring of frost from the player. Every creature the ring reaches takes freeze damage that ignores armor, is frozen and slowed, and is knocked back. Each target can only be hit once per Nova. The ability has a one-minute cooldown.

Evolution

Frostfang evolves by collecting kills. Any mob or player defeated with a melee hit or with the Frost Nova counts, as long as the sword is held in the main hand. Each sword tracks its own progress, which is kept when the sword is stored, dropped or traded.

Stage 1, Frostbitten (0 kills):

  • Hits freeze the target for 1 second and apply Slowness I for 3 seconds.
  • Frost Nova reaches 5 blocks and deals 2 damage.

Stage 2, Glacial (10 kills):

  • Hits freeze the target for 2 seconds and apply Slowness II for 4 seconds.
  • Frost Nova reaches 7 blocks and deals 4 damage.
  • Ice shards form along the blade.

Stage 3, Absolute Zero (50 kills):

  • Hits freeze the target for 3 seconds and apply Slowness III for 5 seconds.
  • Frost Nova reaches 9 blocks and deals 6 damage, with the strongest knockback.
  • The blade becomes fully crystallized, with an animated shimmer.

When the sword evolves, the player is notified and its texture and tooltip update.

Statistics

  • 9 attack damage and 1.6 attack speed
  • Durability equal to a diamond sword
  • Resistant to fire and lava

Crafting

Place a Diamond Sword in the centre of a crafting table, with Blue Ice above, below, left and right of it. The corners stay empty. The recipe unlocks in the recipe book when you obtain Blue Ice, and the sword can also be found in the Combat tab in Creative mode.

Notes

The Frost Nova affects all nearby creatures, including other players, pets and villagers, so use it with care around your base.
