About

Description

A nether gateway structure ascending from the Nether to the frozen Nether roof, with the words "Frozen Nether Roof, By Braytonk" superimposed

Braytonk's Frozen Nether Roof

This datapack adds a frozen sub-dimension on top of the Nether roof, which can be accessed through the new Nether Gateway structures that generate throughout the Nether. In this frigid wasteland, you can find new biomes, mobs, and Stray Tower structures containing a unique miniboss fight.

Biomes

Ice Flows

The first biome you will encounter, the Ice Flows, are a network of icy pathways spreading across the Nether roof. Breaking through the ice with jagged spikes, you will find its two sub-biomes, the Ice Pillars and the Basalt Pillars.

Frozen Wastes

The frigid mirror to the familiar Nether Wastes, the Frozen Wastes are a barren expanse of snow sprinkled with pockets of powdered snow.

Icecap Forest

Breaking the monotony of the endless wastes, the Icecap Forests spring up from soulsand patches with strange basalt and ice tree-like features.

Blackstone Peaks

Cutting deep into the frozen Nether sky, these menacing mountain ranges are formed from the underlying blackstone. A long fall is not the only danger that awaits you in these precipitous heights.

Structures

Nether Gateway

These imposing spires connect the lower Nether to its frozen roof, and are located in Ice Pillars or Basalt Pillars in the middle of the Ice Flows. Watch out for the Wither Skeletons and Magma Cubes in the toasty lower level and for Strays and Ice Cubes in the frigid upper level.

Navigation Tower

These mysterious structures can be found in any biome in the lower Nether. They contain wither skeletons and a diorama of the Nether with a lodestone at the top, representing its matching Stray Tower.

If the Updated Nether Fortress datapack is present, the Navigation Tower generates with Nether Fortress bridges around itself.

Stray Tower

Use a Nether Gateway to get to the roof and follow the lodestone in a Navigation Tower, and you will find the matching Stray Tower perched atop the Blackstone Peaks. Brave the Strays and deteriorating ice floors to reach the Stray Champion at the top.

Mobs

Ice Cube

An Ice Cube mob

The Ice Cube is the frozen cousin of the Slime and Magma Cube. When killed they split into smaller Ice Cubes and drop snowballs. The Ice Cube spawns in the upper level of the Nether Gateway, and can be summoned by the Stray Champion.

Stray Champion

A Stray Champion Mob

This miniboss waits for you at the top of the Stray Tower. Once challenged, it will raise a frozen arena for the duel. Damage it sufficiently or knock it down a level to progress through the three phases of the fight. At each phase it attacks more and breaks more ice with each attack. Can you prove yourself the spleef champion and defeat it before you succumb to the cold or fall to your doom?
