Happy Ghast

This mod introduces friendly Ghast companions inspired by the Live features.

Core Features:

  • Friendly Mobs: Adds the peaceful, rideable Happy Ghast and its baby form, the Ghastling. They won't attack players and don't despawn. Iron Golems, Snow Golems, and Guard Villagers will not target them.
  • Ghastling Growth:
    • Find Dried Ghasts generating near Nether Fossils (in various Nether biomes).
    • Waterlog a dried ghasts to start hatching (takes about 1 in-game day). The incubator shows visual stages (Dried, Neutral, Happy).
    • Use Ghast Tears on a waterlogged dried ghast to speed up hatching.
    • Right-click a dried ghast with a Stick to check progress.
    • Feed hatched Ghastlings snowballs to heal them and significantly speed up their growth into a Happy Ghast.
  • Riding & Transport:
    • Equip adult Happy Ghasts with a harness (found or crafted) to ride them.
    • Control flight with Space (ascend) and C (descend).
    • Ride with friends: Happy Ghasts can carry up to 4 players.
    • Adjust flight speed using the /ghastspeed <multiplier|reset> command (requires permissions).
  • Customization:
    • Use standard colored harnesses, dye them, or remove them with shears.
    • Create custom harnesses (single-player only via /ghast createharness command and GUI). Add your own 2:1 ratio textures for saddles, glasses, and accessories to the happyghast_textures folder.
  • Other:
    • Includes spawn eggs for both mobs.
    • Features custom sounds for Ghasts, Ghastlings, and the incubator.
    • Extended interaction range for easier mounting.

Happy Ghast

Brings to life the adorable friendly Ghasts that were showcased at Live, transforming the intimidating vanilla Ghasts into interactive companions that players can befriend and utilize in their adventures.

Custom Harnesses

  • Use /ghast createharness to add custom harnesses (currently works only locally)
  • Add your own textures to the happyghast_textures folder in your game directory
  • Texture requirements:
  • Glasses, saddles, and accessories: 2:1 ratio (e.g., 128×64)
  • All textures must fit the UV mapping of ghasts

Features

  • New Friendly Entities
  • Happy Ghasts: Peaceful, rideable versions of Ghasts that won't attack players
  • Ghastlings: Baby Ghasts that grow into full Happy Ghasts over time
  • Unique Interactions
  • Tame Ghastlings by feeding them snowballs to accelerate their growth
  • Leash Ghastlings to keep them close as they follow you
  • Saddle and ride mature Happy Ghasts as flying mounts (Space to ascend, C to descend)
  • Use /ghastspeed {multiplier} command to increase the speed of your mounted Happy Ghast
  • Happy Ghasts can carry up to 4 players simultaneously, fully functional in multiplayer mode
  • Both entities naturally follow players holding snowballs
  • Find dried Ghastlings near Nether Fossils and heal them using water (healing speed can be increased with ghast tears)
  • Heal Happy Ghasts with snowballs

This brings the excitement of Live directly into your game, implementing fan-favorite creatures that were showcased. It transforms one of the most feared hostile entities into a useful ally, adding new gameplay mechanics centered around taming, riding, and befriending creatures in the Nether.

Instead of avoiding Ghasts, you'll actively seek them out, creating meaningful progression as you nurture Ghastlings into full-sized Happy Ghasts that serve as both companions and utility mounts, just as previewed during Live.
