Herobrin  — the anti-horror mod

The modding scene is full of AI horror companions that stalk you in the dark. This is the opposite.

The first time you join a world, thunder rolls, HEROBRINE fills the screen… and Herobrine walks up checking his watch.
He's not here to haunt you: he's late for work. So he leaves you his kid, a contract, and a promise of child support he
will never pay.

Meet Herobrin Jr.: dark-humored, foul-mouthed (optional), powered by AI, and impossible to get rid of.

 ✨ Features

 🗣️ He talks back, for real
- Type in chat or hold Z and talk into your microphone: he answers with AI, in your game's language.
- Optional ElevenLabs voices: hear the kid (and his dad) talk out loud.
- He remembers you: older conversations go into his diary, so inside jokes and broken promises survive for weeks.
- Ask him "what's that?" and he looks at whatever you're pointing at.
- No AI key? He still has around 700 hand-written lines per language.

 🪓 He does the work himself
- "Kill 3 sheep." "Chop that tree." "Get me some iron." "Harvest the wheat." "Make me a bed." "Light this place up."
- He walks over (or blinks, like his dad), gets it done and brings you the loot. Up to four jobs in a row:
 "kill 3 sheep, then make me a bed".
- He plays fair: only natural blocks he can actually see (no x-ray), never your builds, chests or pets, and land claims
  are respected. Told to kill "all" the animals, he leaves two of each kind so they can breed.
- With cheats on, he can even run commands for you: "make it day", *"stop the rain", "where's the nearest village?"

### 👻 He roasts other horror mods
- Verity, Cave Dweller, The Man From The Fog, fake Herobrines… When one gets close, he mocks it,
  bounces it like a ball, flings it far away or finishes it.
- Not every time: the horror mod still gets to scare you. But anything that hurts you is finished on the spot.

 🎃 Halloween (Oct 25 - Nov 1, every year)
- A different costume every day (a pumpkin on Halloween itself).
- Say "trick or treat" at night and he goes door to door at the villagers. Most give him candy for you, the stingy
  ones get a harmless scare.
- Halloween is dad's busiest night. Look around.
- Horror creatures get Halloween roasts: "Nice costume. Oh wait, that's your face."

- Guilt-trips you when you die, defuses creepers, fights the mobs that attack you.
- Hide and seek, scary campfire stories, posing for your screenshots, costumes, and a little grave with an epitaph
  when you die.
- His dad shows up in the distance now and then, vanishes when you look… and leaves a "child support" chest.
- Streamer mode: your Twitch or YouTube viewers talk to him with `!jr` and he answers out loud
  (viewers can only talk, never make him do anything).
- His own advancement tab, hidden advancements, and a few secrets you'll have to find yourself.

## 🌍 Languages

Hand-written dialogue in English, Türkçe, Español, Português, Deutsch, Français and Русский.
With an AI key he speaks whatever language your game is set to: Italian, Japanese, Polish… even Pirate Speak.
In multiplayer, every player hears him in their own language.

## 🚀 Getting started

1. Install **Forge 47.x for Minecraft 1.20.1** and drop the jar into your `mods` folder
   (on a server: on the server **and** on every player).
2. Join a world. Herobrine arrives after a few seconds (hold Shift to skip the intro).
3. (Optional) Give him a brain: Mods > Herobrin Jr. > Config, paste an AI key, press Test connection, then Save.
4. (Optional) Voices and microphone: Config > Voice… with an ElevenLabs key.

Supported AI: Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Groq (free tier), OpenRouter, DeepSeek, xAI, Mistral, any OpenAI-compatible
relay, or a local Ollama (free and offline). The key's prefix picks the provider automatically.

Microphone: your ElevenLabs key works as is. A free Groq key or a Whisper server on your own computer work too.

## ⌨️ Commands

`/hj` works as a short alias. Shift + right click him: follow / wait here.

## 🖥️ For server owners

- Every player gets their own kid, speaking their own language.
- Everything can be changed in `config/herobrinjr-common.toml` or the in-game config screen: profanity level
  (clean / mild / foul), jobs, AI commands, microphone input, world changes, how he treats horror mobs
  (`playful`, `hunter`, `mocker`), request limits and more.
- He only breaks or places blocks where the player could: spawn protection and land-claim mods are respected.
- By default, AI commands only work for players who could use commands anyway (cheats or op), and only everyday ones.
  An opt-in "Everything" mode exists for the brave; server admin commands always stay off limits.

## 🔒 Privacy

With an AI key, what you say to him and a short game summary are sent to the AI provider you chose.
Voices and speech-to-text run on your own computer, with your own keys. Keys are only stored in your local config files.

## ❓ FAQ

Is it scary? No, it's a comedy mod. Set the profanity level to 0 for a clean, family-friendly kid.

Does it cost money? The mod is free. AI providers may charge: Groq has a free tier, Ollama is free, and without a
key he uses his scripted lines.

Fabric? Other versions? Forge 1.20.1 only for now.
