Description
What is HeroClock?
HeroClock is a performance, stability, timing, and compatibility framework built for complex superhero modpacks on Minecraft 1.20.1.
At the center of HeroClock is something its name actually represents: an improved shared clock and timing system.
Many complex Minecraft powers use scoreboards as makeshift timers. A scoreboard might increase every tick while commands constantly check it to control cooldowns, transformations, temporary effects, animations, cleanup, and ability states.
That approach works, but when many large superhero addons all do it independently, those timers and repeated commands can add up.
HeroClock provides a shared internal timing API that compatible systems can tap into instead.
Rather than creating another scoreboard and checking it 20 times every second, appropriate systems can use HeroClock to schedule periodic work and manage timers, cooldowns, and ability lifecycles more efficiently. Something that only needs checking once per second, for example, doesn't need to run every game tick.
HeroClock doesn't blindly remove scoreboards. Scoreboards are still useful for gameplay data and systems that genuinely need them. The goal is to provide a better clock when a scoreboard is only being used as a clock.
More Than a Clock
HeroClock has grown beyond its timing system into a compatibility, optimization, and world-protection layer for superhero mods.
It targets specific problems we've encountered in real superhero modpacks: expensive abilities, excessive command execution, temporary entities and blocks that aren't cleaned up properly, transformation lifecycle problems, advancement checks, persistent effects, and other systems capable of hurting server TPS.
The goal isn't to redesign these mods.
HeroClock tries to preserve their intended gameplay while improving what happens behind the scenes.
Supported Superhero Mods
HeroClock contains targeted compatibility and optimization work for the superhero mods and addons we've specifically built and tested it around, including:
- AlienEvo
- Omni Evo
- Overworld DNA
- Into the Omniverse
- Infinity
- Infintrix
- Satsu Iron Man Addon
- CelestialSapien
- Gods & Heroes
- PantheonSent
- Powerborne Heroes
- Saiyan
HeroClock also works around the Palladium ecosystem these addons use and is designed to cooperate with its companion optimization mod, OmniOptimizer, when present.
Support doesn't mean every mod receives the exact same kind of patch. HeroClock only applies targeted behavior where we've identified something that benefits from intervention.
For example, its work includes fixes and optimizations involving Galvanic Mechamorph/Lightning Rod behavior, Overworld DNA advancement and ability processing, Explosasapien, Oxidite and Frostixian systems, temporary ice and environmental effects, transformation lifecycles, Infinity Stone mechanics, temporary projectiles/entities, and other known persistence problems.
Preventing Persistent World Lag
One of HeroClock's most important jobs is dealing with a particularly nasty type of modded Minecraft problem: lag that becomes attached to the world itself.
Some abilities can accidentally leave temporary entities, blocks, projectiles, commands, or other state behind after the ability is supposed to be finished.
In severe cases, the server can return to 20 TPS when you leave an affected area, only for the lag to immediately return when that chunk is loaded again—even following a restart.
HeroClock handles known problems like these using a three-stage approach:
Prevent first → targeted cleanup as a failsafe → restart/chunk-load recovery for existing damage.
Prevention is preferred. Cleanup exists for things that escape prevention, while restart and chunk-load safeguards give HeroClock an opportunity to recover known temporary leftovers already saved into a world.
These systems are deliberately targeted. HeroClock isn't built around constantly running enormous global entity scans or indiscriminately deleting things just to produce a higher TPS number.
Optional Compatibility, Not Hard Dependencies
The superhero mods HeroClock supports aren't required dependencies simply because HeroClock knows how to improve them.
HeroClock is designed to detect supported content and use the relevant compatibility behavior when appropriate. If a supported addon isn't installed, its specific compatibility work isn't needed.
That lets HeroClock act as a common foundation across different superhero modpack configurations instead of requiring everyone to install exactly the same collection of hero mods.
The Goal
Ultimately, HeroClock gives superhero mods a shared optimization foundation and a better clock to run on.
Less unnecessary ticking.
Fewer scoreboard clocks.
Cleaner ability lifecycles.
Better TPS.
More stable worlds.
Same powers.
HeroClock — because not everything needs its own scoreboard.
