# House of Habsborough

### Come on... you can't breed siblings...!

*Well, Minecraft villagers never had a family registry. Until now.*

A multi-generational family in the plains with genetic issues.

**Every village has a history. Some family trees are just a little more complicated than others.**
House of Habsborough brings persistent family trees, ancestry tracking and some rather questionable inheritance mechanics to Minecraft's villagers.

Follow bloodlines across generations, discover long-forgotten ancestors, track twins and descendants, and find out what happens when a village takes *keeping it in the family* a little too seriously.
A family in the jungle, living with too many people on a small tree.
Villagers keep their vanilla looks, professions and trades. Their family history, however, is now more than just a collection of names. Ancestry influences a separate degeneration stage, with configurable effects on fertility, maximum health and other outcomes.

## Features

  • **It's a family affair.** Track parents, twins and descendants across generations. Even deceased villagers remain part of the family tree. Gone, but not forgotten.
    - **A name to remember.** Seven biome-based name pools with prefixes, suffixes, and titles give villagers a sense of belonging. Customize naming distance, visibility or bring your own names through datapacks.
People of the Taiga (name examples: Kjell the Hunter, O'Norrton, Old Tjor)People of Snowlands (name examples: U.Lunesen, C.Aven, K.Liosen)People of the desert (name examples: Ibn Neraim H., Abu Zava T., Merekim H.)
    - **Some questionable genetics.** A proper genealogical family tree keeps track of how closely related villagers really are, independently of the degeneration stage that drives gameplay effects.
    - **Actions have consequences.** Fine-tune twin chances, fertility, infant mortality and inherited outcomes. Genetic zombification even comes with its own optional Peaceful-mode setting.
Two breeding outcomes. Left: vanilla heart sprites for a newborn. Right: pale, descending heart sprites after an unsuccessful, infertile attempt.
    - **Family resemblance.** Customize degeneration-related skin, eye-white, iris and nose tints individually.
Examples for different, inheritance related body and face tints (greenish, pink, violet and pale)
    - **Everybody has a story.** Look up births, deaths, zombification and successful cures. Detailed reports reveal partners, offspring, ages and last known locations. (data is saved, a tool for analysis under construction)
    - **History shouldn't just disappear.** Automatic pedigree snapshots, full-world backups and recovery tools help keep your village's legacy intact. (Unknown ancestry stays marked as uncertain. No made-up grandparents here.)
    - **Your village, your rules.** Adjust the mod directly through Options → Habsborough. Gameplay and visual settings are saved per world and controlled by the server.

## Getting started

Getting a family history started is pretty straightforward:

Give a villager food while a non-spectator player is nearby, and House of Habsborough will begin tracking its lineage. Vanilla food-pickup rules still apply.

Automatic naming works independently, so simply having a name doesn't mean a villager already has a family record.

From there, let your village grow. Explore its history through inspection commands, dig into exported reports and see how generations connect.
Health and twins are getting some surprising updates too. Get hyped.

**A few things to keep in mind:** A graphical in-game family-tree viewer isn't included yet, and events that happened before tracking began may remain unknown. Even Habsborough can't rewrite history.

### Content note

House of Habsborough features fictional inbreeding and degeneration mechanics, including infertility, infant villager mortality and genetic zombification.

Not your cup of tea? Fertility effects, infant mortality and genetic zombification can each be disabled individually in the in-game settings.
